Yo, depends on your budget. I guess the xb1x is kind of future proofing yourself, so that will be my choice. I think the biggest thing though, make sure the library of games is what you're after. If you haven't done so already, get a ps4 or ps4 pro, Live
in both worlds and have a much bigger library of games. Remember a console is only worth it's library unless having a media machine is a big thing for you?

I'll be getting the new xb for sure though this is based mainly on Xbox's past and not present or future. In my mind the current library can't compete with the competition, particularly the exclusives, though look at the past? 360 and originals with a decent
enough dedicated game is good enough for me. If you're just after current gen material, be careful Xbox One X vs Xbox One S ;)

Lastly, I really hope XB get's allot more 3rd party support once the xb1x is out, the hardware is brilliant so make an effort overseas guys at MS. The XB1 actually sells as a Bluray player in Japan, this saddens me tbh, the Original had and has potential
well beyond shooters and driving games. Speaking of which, Who here enjoyed D2? Great stuff.

I'm stirring up trouble here, partly and on purpose on the basis that I've never read so many half truths. A certain person/persons here constantly thinks every post is "which brand better", Really? That's consumerism in a gamers world I guess.

The PS4 Pro is not powerful enough for native 4k gaming. Xbox One X comes more closer to it. It has 12GB GDDR5 @ 326GB/s. It has more GPU cores and faster GPU cores at that. It also has an overclocked faster clocked processor to. It's the smallest Xbox ever
quoted by Microsoft. And it has a 4k Blu-ray disc player, something which the competition doesn't even though they own Blu-ray, which is messed up.

The X is a significant performance boost. Faster boot ups/shutdowns/swifter dashboard UI response times which is the result of not the software, not your internet connection, but the hardware running it.

It depends on the person's budget. And if they're ok with sub standard graphics or by far not the best graphics (pixels, blurry, jaggies, 480p upscaled content etc) and just play it for the games for what they come as. People spend more money on games than
they do on a console. And if you get one, you can show it off to sony fans cause you know with them, they've been talking about specs and pixels and resolutions for over a decade. Xbox fans are doing videos on YouTube boasting about the X's power and have
brought up and showed off comparison spreadsheets. I have over 20 Xbox 360 games and about 25 Xbox One games.

The X is a perfect example of Microsoft's response to the Console Wars, which have been going on before I long time. Bear in mind young people in Australia and New Zealand easily spend $200 a month partying on weekends and on takeaways.
It depends on your circumstances and your personality. If you are on a strict budget or only want the basics, the S is a great start. But if you want more, or want to keep up with the latest fashion, get the X.

There's also a lot of people who like the X too. Watch their official unboxing video of their like prototype or Scorpio Edition on their YouTube Channel. It has like 88% likes! Which is the majority without a doubt (51%+ makes it majority based on statistical
data). Rather than like the minority 10-12% who through a dislike at the video. After all, boys and men like new gadgets/toys.

The PS4 Pro is *plenty* powerful enough for native 4k gaming - it just depends on which games have been tailor-made to run it. I have no intention of trawling Digital Foundry, but I'm pretty sure when they did a deep dive with The Last Guardian - a tentpole
for the system - it was shown to be running @2160p. At any rate, you've just admitted that One X may *not* be powerful enough either - hence your "more closer to it" remark. Both systems use checkerboarding to achieve their goals (to some extent), so there's
really no need to be championing one faux-k format over the other.

As for the [Pro] lacking a Ultra HD player, well, I'm lacking a UHD source - so how would that benefit me? For any of the games specifically enhanced for the Pro, you can mostly choose 'supersampling' @1800p on your 1080p monitor (or alternatively, 1080p60
as standard). That benefits *me* - that's not messed up. That's a conscientious decision made on my part.

So wait, if I'm reading your post right, you're advocating the base Xbox One for its "blurry, jaggies, 480p upscaled content" and in the same breath advising peeps to "show it off to Sony fans" because they're all about specs and resolutions? Wouldn't this
then convince the OP to go with the competition? Xbox fans *may* be boasting about the X's power, but if all you're playing is base Xbox One games with a bunch of EXTRA PIXELS, then all you're doing is throwing good money after bad.

Xbox One X hasn't shifted any goalposts - yet. Come back and discuss the state of the market in one year's time.

Also,it's not like Scorpio gonna run all games in native for 4K.

Most will be upscalled or use the same "tricks" used on PS4 pro.

And so far,Team Xbox doesn't have enough first party supports to show or to prove anything.

  6. DF matched a PC to specs when Neo was rumoured(summer 2016) - and it gave about 15 fps in native 4k.

So I would certainly not use "plenty" in this context.

So increasing 4.2 TFLOPS to 6 TFLOPS for X1X does not even suggest that will run 4k with more than 30 fps - or heavy disabled visuals in 60 fps. Most probably checkerboarding or something.

And which developer studios bother - is what I ask myself - to optimize like Microsoft for Forza?

Many 3rd party games run 900p on X1 to start with - but Forza 1080p.

  7. Here is the list of native 4k games on the PS4 Pro as of the 21st of January 2017 (it was the first link on Google, I'm not concerned enough to search more). Digital Foundry: Every PS4 Pro native 4K game tested

As you can see the Pro is capable of native 4k gaming. Now I'll quite happily admit that the One X is shaping up to be more capable in that regard but again you have think as a person coming from outside of this generation of consoles.

Is what the One X offers worth another 100 to 200 Dollars to most people, money that can be spent on more games to play. The One X is an enthusiasts console, much like the GTX 1080ti is considered an enthusiasts graphics card. It's a console for people who
have to have the absolute best, but that isn't how most gamers think.

Perhaps I am completely wrong but I think that the Xbox One S, to stick to the OP's question, represents far greater value for money at the present time.

If $100-$200 Is too much for people then they shouldn't be blowing it on games but life necessities like food and shelter etc.....

  9. Interesting read, thank you.

Capable - maybe I think it struggles with 4k like X1 do with 1080p already.

If you intend to do 4k gaming - if that really matter, which I don't - I would go X1X for sure.

But for best possible 1080p, closer to PC, I would go X1X - just nice with a lot of headroom for 60 fps anything.

Console is one thing though - I installed a golf game for X1 the other day that looked worse than any golf game on 360 I saw.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour - and it looked like taking a copy of video over from old VHS tape - nosiy looking grass in sequences.

And I go back to my old Tiger Woods PGA 09 Tour on 360 again - yes, waiting for each hole to load, but looks stunning.

Console is just an enabler - gameplay and looks of games still are up to developers.

  10. You seem to think I was talking about people not being able to afford something, rather than not finding value. I shall try again.

For $500 a person can buy an Xbox One S, four $60 games, and have money left over for a Gold subscription.

That same money just buys an Xbox One X. In fact if you want the same things, the price you'll be paying jumps up to $700 for an Xbox One X, four $60 games, and a Gold subscription.

Can you see how people may think that they are getting more bang for their buck with the Xbox One S than with the One X?

  11. With me being a 360 owner I had been thinking about upgrading to a One for quite some time. Being a mature gamer who paid off his mortgage last year and hearing the rumours of Project Scorpio I decided to wait and see what happened.

When they finally announced the One X and the specifications I decided to wait for its release before upgrading. And even better for me when they announced the Project Scorpio Edition, so my pre-order went in on day one as soon as it was announced.

And having just upgraded my TV to a 50" 4K Ultra HD I could not be any happier Xbox One X vs Xbox One S :)

    Good to hear that.

The Xbox One S does some amazing things. But the Xbox One X takes that further. 4GB more memory. 4x Faster memory bandwidth (DDR3 vs X). Faster GPU cores. More GPU cores. Faster clocked processor. Game developers including Square Enix are already considering
doing Xbox One X patches for the console. Microsoft at E3 2017 already listed several games that will be Xbox One X Enhanced. Microsoft has already implied that Forza 7 will run 4k 60fps on the X. Although it won't be able to play a long list of games in 4k
native, it does have better hardware than the competition. And that's something to boast about.

The reason why I got Xbox was not because of the hardware. Not because of the games. But the features which XBL had. Late 2010, Xbox 360 had Party Chat. The competition only had that cheap Game Chat. Party Chat lets you chat with a group of friends and randoms
on XBL whilst doing different things on your console. It also has voice messaging, console video chat, picture messaging. And it's run by the largest software company in the world. Minecraft came to Xbox 360 a year before the competition. It also has Halo
Forza Screamride Zoo Tycoon Kinect Sports Rivals and a whole bunch of other games NOT found on the competition console.

You don't need a 4k screen for the X. It will even make 1080p gaming more bling. And it will make your multimedia entertainment system better. Software will be more responsive on it due to better processing power of the X. And that adds convenience. I look
for QUALITY not QUANTITY. I would rather spend an extra $200 on a system (Quality) rather than games (quantity to increase to my library). I already have at least 20 Xbox One games. And plan to get The Sims 4 and Jurassic World Evolution when they come out
too. Expect YouTube and Netflix apps, and Dashboard loading times, to be like 2x faster with the Xbox One X thanks to the better processing power. Yes GDDR has more latency than DDR3. But Xbox 360 uses GDDR memory too. And the UI in my experience on 360, is
more responsive than the Xbox One. I have good internet with Vodafone. The Xbox One's UI is likely stored on the servers not the actual console. Which could explain why when you use your Xbox One in offline mode, the UI is much more faster. Because the console
is forced to use it's own UI thingy.

I will be getting Xbox one X Tuesday 7 November 2017 when it comes out. New Zealand is also ahead time wise with the rest of the world. So that's something I'm also excited about too. I will also get a $5 pair of white gloves to do the unboxing and show
off video on YouTube. Also looking forward to Minecraft Super Duper graphics, and Final Fantasy XV on the X. Because with that game on the original Xbox One, it's just blurry and low textures. The X will make it look like a million bucks. And yes Square Enix
will be one of the developers who will support the X.

Xbox One X vs Xbox One S

    Xbox One Games | Xbox

^ Official list (from Microsoft) of potential Xbox One X Enhanced games. You may get the impression of people on here who make up only a tiny fraction of everyone on Xbox, who may think well will game developers support the X.... This list from Microsoft
helps clarify this. They wouldn't have put it up for no reason.

An official list which lets you compare the S to the X

Compare Xbox One Consoles | Xbox

"12GB GDDR5 of graphic memory add speed and power to game performance to enable bigger worlds, further horizons, and quicker load times." - that backs up my statement how YouTube Netflix and the Dashboard will process faster on the X, adding more convenience
    to the customer.

I'm also interested in Sea of Thieves which will be on Xbox One. At the end of the day, it's your own views and circumstances that you can take into consideration whether to upgrade to the X or not. I've already saved and set aside money for the X. Yes
the bottleneck would be the CPU speed. But it's better than 2.13Ghz (competition). It's better than 1.75Ghz (original Xbox One). And it's an 8 core processor (8 physical cores). And I've heard some on here say when I compare the X1 to the X360 (3.2Ghz tri
core processor) that more doesn't mean better (referring to clock speeds). The processor would be made this year since the X comes out this year. Thus it will be a good processor considering it's made for a console. It's overclocked so it will be able to process
stuff a bit faster making it a more efficient machine. Because time is never on your side (something I hear other people say). I like to come home and enjoy content. Not wait for a loading screen. I also like better looking graphics whilst staying with a console
    brand I prefer.

  14. How MS is going about seing to that games are updated - is starting to impress me quite a bit.

I was almost set on PS4 Pro as it was Neo - but investigating no devs were into making patches for already released games.

So I lost interest - as well finding the flawed controller that needing to be on charge constantly, or won't even last a gaming session anyway.

    So way to go MS....

So wait, you *don't* own a Pro yet?

There's a little known trick that effectively extends the recharge rate of the controller. If you go into settings, and under 'devices', you can then find the controller settings where you can set the light bar to 'dim'... in practical terms, this adds another
two hours of boost to your sessions! I'm presently ploughing through The Last of Us: Left Behind on Grounded difficulty and am getting a solid six hours out of it, with no need to reconnect the controller.

Honestly have no idea what the bonus is when using a light bar, and I've Microsoft to thank for that (as such a feature has never been wanted or needed on Xbox). I've also turned the DS microphone to its lowest setting - not that I've ever wanted that feature
either Xbox One X vs Xbox One S ;)
