Do you own a 4k television or are planning to buy one soon? One S only upscales current-gen games to 4k whereas the One X will run games natively @4k. Prior to E3, I was definitely aboard the hype train but the wheels fell off when I saw that the final One
X build would be delivered to market in some boring gun-metal or other drab color. I like white. Xbox One S is white and I couldn't be happier! More to the point, if I wanted to upgrade my TV then I'd have to upgrade my A/V receiver as I'm running a home cinema.
That's a lot of *expensive* components just to get a pixel boost.

If you don't care about aesthetic value and already own or plan to own a 4k monitor, then you should definitely wait for the One X!

Xbox One X has way more better hardware, it also has better hardware than PS4 Pro. Thus it will be able to play many game titles native in 4k, depending on the developers. You DO-NOT need a 4k HDTV for Xbox One X!! Xbox One X will offer NOTICEABLY HIGHER
VISUAL FIDELITY and that is what the younger generation often care about. It also has a 4k Blu-ray disc player. The PS4 Pro doesn't, just the run of the mill 1080p one. Xbox One X also has much better processing power, so it will boot up faster with the 1TB
HDD and included 8GB flash memory, faster processor and mid-high end GPU with 12GB (not up to 8GB) of 326GB/s bandwidth memory. Xbox One X will, pay attention, be SMALLER, than the Xbox One S, and it will have state of the art innovative vapor cooling, a first
in consoles. A downside is the price tag which is US$499, AU$649 and NZ$749 which Microsoft has set an RRP of. However, you currently cannot build a custom PC sticking strictly to those budgets, which beats the Xbox One X in terms of specs and performance.

The Xbox One S is a good starter for those new to Xbox and those who are not into higher end visual fidelity experience and just want to play games rather than focus on wanting high graphic visual fidelity. It is also noticeably cheaper than the X.

It depends on your circumstances, financially, your schedule, and what you want.

I'll be getting Xbox One X when it comes out DAY ONE on 7/11/2017. As soon as I do, I'll enjoy Final Fantasy XV, Minecraft super duper graphics thanks to the performance power of the X, and also..... The Sims 4. Yes I have it for PC, but I have over 100
friends on Xbox. Many games are sometimes blurry or notice some periods of lag in them. With X, it will have the horse power to bring out higher performance in games.

  8. Xbox One X vs Xbox One S

About X1X what I consider is

#1. if all downloads of games or updates will be sized hugely above on X1 launch I have.

#2. will BC ability be improved in that no further full digital downloads are necessary for 360 games - just install 360 disks and done.

If there is a compatibily handling built in - like PC has for previous operating systems - compatibily with XP or similar - run the same game.

This would be a huge sales point to me.

    Those are my major concerns.

Not to game, just to stream 4k, you could just as well run X1S.

As has been said, unless you have a 4K screen, the premium you will pay will not be worth it.

As Microsoft have said, you DO NOT need a 4k screen for X. On 1080p screens, youll enjoy noticeably higher visuals. Take pc gaming for example. The high max ultra graphics settings ARE NOT reserved for 4k screens. They're for 720p and 1080p too.

It depends on what your budget is

If you have a 1080p screen and don't care about 4K-- then the X is not for you. But if you like all that horsepower under the hood and are overwhelmed and overjoyed what Xbox One X can do... then you should be looking at purchasing an Xbox One X.

Even if you have a 1080p monitor or TV... the Xbox One X will look great on any 1080p screen.

If you're on a tight budget and can only get the console right away... I will wait until you have more money saved up and a get 4K display down the line.

    4K displays have dropped significantly.

Unless, you already own a 4K display... then it's a win, win.

I prefer better console performance. Faster start ups and faster shutdowns, faster UI thanks to better processing power from better hardware. Final Fantasy XV looks crap on Xbox One. Blurry, looks like 480p upscaled to 1080p, jaggies, low textures. I tried
it on PS4 Pro (had the console for a few months), and the graphics on it looked like a million dollars. And the game is not on PC. Since Xbox One X has superior hardware to PS4 Pro, Microsoft already has stated the game will be "Xbox One X" and that Square
Enix will release a patch for the X.

You don't need a 4k screen. It is not mandatory. I think people are getting confused. You'll enjoy better visuals and better processing performance even in 1080p. Sure there will be people on a budget. But if your more than just a casual gamer, you'll spend
more money on games than you do on the console you play on. Xbox One X gets a massive hardware revision with not just 8GB DDR3 RAM, but 12GB GDDR5 RAM with a high bandwidth of 326GB/s and 9GB of that Microsoft will allow for gaming, which is overkill, but
awesome. This is the console wars and it has been around since before I even joined Xbox. It's like PC gaming. The Ultra and Max settings are NOT reserved for 4k screens. They can be enjoyed in 1080p and even 720p screens too.

Xbox One launched November 2013 for RRP US$499. Xbox One X will launch with the same price, retailers may sell it a bit cheaper to bring the customers to them. In 2 months time, I'll be enjoying keeping up with the latest fashion, Xbox One X. Xbox One X
is a MASSIVE HARDWARE REVISION compared to the original Xbox One and even the S revision too. But if you're on a budget and don't give a hoot about graphics fidelity and a not amazing processor running on your console, then the S is for you.

  13. Xbox One X vs Xbox One S

This is an older thread but with the launch of the Xbox One X just around the corner, quite an interesting one to revisit.

With all three versions of the Xbox One playing the exact same games, it comes down to media consumption and extra shiny in those games. With the base Xbox One not having 4k capabilities for media, it really is a race between the S and X.

Both systems of course will play 4k media but the X will be able to handle 4k gaming. So the question gets narrowed down again to how much value do you put on that extra graphical prowess.

I can go onto Amazon and buy an Xbox One S for under $300 ($250 for the 500gb model with Battlefield 1, $290 for the 1tb version of the console with the same game). So let's round that up and say the Xbox One S is $300 with a game. The Xbox One X of course
is going to launch for $500 and lets add in the same free game (maybe with a 4k patch) to keep things fair.

People will have to ask themselves if the extra graphical power of the Xbox One X is going to be worth another $200. Remember these consoles are going to be able to play the exact same games.

The tl;dr version. Is the Xbox One X's extra graphical power for gaming really worth an extra $200 over the Xbox One S.

Thousands of people will buy it when it comes out.

It will offer faster boot ups, faster shutdowns. It also has 8GB Flash. It will also play games with less jaggies, less blurry, more rich graphics, thanks to the hardware power. It will also have a much more smoother dashboard experience too. It's like running
Windows 10 on a cheap PC vs a pc with better hardware, the latter is obviously going to run it more better. It will also be smaller than the Xbox One S. Good for uni students or people who live in tiny UK homes or in small CBD apartments.

Think what the Xbox One original was like at launch. The majority of people complained how it only had DDR3 RAM (68GB/s) vs. Xbox One X's bandwidth (326GB/s). The majority of people commented how fat it looked, a thing called a V-C-R. Microsoft also is aware
of the console wars, and I'm sure they're sick of loosing in that department. But with the X, they will be winning especially in the interest of fans and the younger generation who are into better graphics. It's not the sole interest of Microsoft. They are
right when they say it's the gamers who wanted a better console. Since November 2013, Xbox has got a lot of criticism about it. And it's great to see them fixing it with the X.

Overall it will have a faster and smoother dashboard performance. Opening aps in half the time it takes with the original. I have noticed the different between loading and saving times between Xbox 360 Minecraft (I have the slim console) and Xbox One Minecraft.
Xbox One is about 4x faster. Since the X is a significant hardware revision so much people are calling it next gen, Minecraft will load and save on it a lot more faster too. The dash will be more responsive due to better processing power. Faster shutdowns
and boot ups. These are the things that bring convenience to people's lifes, especially with busy school and work schedules. And there's that feeling o fanboy or fangirl. What is Sony's response? Cause for the past 10 years, it's the resolution and pixels
and graphics and hardware specs numbers that matter to them.

  15. It's not a question of if the One X will sell. There are several people on here, including yourself, who plan to buy it. Rather the question is for people who don't own any form of the Xbox One.

After all both the One S and One X both have 4k media capabilities and both will play the exact same games. So again it comes down to if what you describe is worth that extra $200. Bear in mind that $200 could buy you three or four new games to play on an Xbox
One S, whereas you'd be paying that money for hopefully a free game with graphical improvements on the X.

I'm excited about the hardware in the Xbox One X, I just think it is crippled by the requirement that all games must also run on the base Xbox One. Personally I don't think the extra shiny is worth the $200 increase over an Xbox One S, it's why in my PC I still
have a GTX 760, it can play all the latest games at good frame rates if I dial down the settings.

Plus Microsoft aren't just battling themselves here, but Sony too. If you are coming into the console scene now and are interested just in some 4k gaming, what's wrong with the PS4 Pro for $100 less than an Xbox One X? It also has 4k media capabilities, just
not through the blu-ray drive but as people abandon physical media that becomes less of a problem each day.
