Xbox One X sound to audio receiver

So I upgraded from an Xbox One to Xbox One X, and bought a Samsung 4k TV to enjoy the full visual experience. In my previous set-up, my Xbox One was plugged into my Sony home theatre amp via HDMI, along with my blu-ray player and
cable box. They all then feed to my old HD-TV via HDMI, and that meant whatever I had switched on (Xbox, cable, blu-ray), the visuals were on the TV but the sound came through the amp. Perfect.

Now, with the Xbox One X, it needs to be plugged directly into the TV, to ensure 4k works (if I tried to connect the Xbox One X to the amp, the new 4K TV settings would only display 1080p). Here's my issue: how the heck do I get the Xbox sound through my
amp while still being directly connected to the TV?

I contacted Xbox Support last night, and the adviser said that "Microsoft was concentrating on the visuals, so best not to connect the amp" - which seems pretty incredulous, given the visuals AND sound make up the true experience. Anyhoo...

My amp is a Sony STR-K3360S, with 4 HDMI options: BD IN, DVD IN, SAT IN, and then an OUT.

My TV is a Samsung 600 series, with three HDMI options, including an ARC.

Is there a way to connect everything up and not lose 4K visuals? I've been Googling like mad, and I don't see the point of upgrading to a better audio-visual experience if I can't even connect an amp...

    Thanks!

    :)

Thanks for the reply! By the looks of it, I think it might be my amp then, as it's maybe 4 years old, and I don't think it has an ARC output (the TV does, but that'd be in reverse to your solution). Dang. Xbox One X sound to audio receiver :)

RE. the ATMOS issue, have you downloaded the ATMOS app? I've read online about other users having ATMOS issues, and the app helped with that?

Sounds like we have similar TV's I believe. I have a Samsung ku6300 aka ku630d at like Costco

Now I'm no guru at all, very much an amatuer, but this TV to my knowledge only has 4k hdr through HDMI 1 even though arc is only HDMI 3, how annoying eh?

Well I have my Xbox one x HDMI into my Sony Str dn1080 receiver (a HDCP 2.2 port) which then goes out from an ARC HDMI port into HDMI 1 of my TV.

All my 4k hdr checks out. Surround working.

My issue is I just bought Dolby Atmos and I get awful popping noises when it switches off to that sound profile (like pausing an ATMOS video).

You could use an optical cable between your tv and amp, then set your tv’s audio out setting to optical. Then on your amp, find the correct input for the optical audio input

You can buy HDMI ARC converter boxes on Amazon that will enable HDMI-ARC on old sound systems, they are essentially dummy sound systems that pose as an ARC receiver then pass the audio to the sound system plugged in at the other end.

Be aware that HDMI-ARC is no different from optical, it only supports PCM 2.0 (stereo) Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1, thats all you get. If you desire HD audio formats or PCM 7.1 you need a 4K/HDR compatible sound system.

Dolby Atmos is buggy on Xbox because of the way the Xbox audio engine works, MS have an audio upmixer that merges the system UI sounds with audio streams but this does not play well when bitstreaming Atmos. Which on a technical level is handing off the audio
from Xbox to the sound system to decode so you can see why their upmixer causes all sorts of problems. There really should be a toggle in the audio settings to disable the upmixer (thereby muting system audio) when using Atmos or bitstreaming Blu-ray/Movie/TV
    audio in general.

Atmos is not designed for gaming in short.

What kind of sound card does xbox one X have?

    Hello sizzle,

Thank you for contacting Forum support!

Dolby Atmos support on Xbox One and Xbox One S, with this feature it enables all Xbox consoles to pass Blu-ray audio data untouched to a user’s audio equipment, allowing your audio receiver or other audio device to produce a high
    quality, immersive sound experience.

Audio Components with Xbox one X:

    DTS: 5.1

DOLBY Digital 5.1, TrueHD with Atmos

    PCM

    Hope this helps.
