Xbox One X Slowdown, glitches, freezing.

Just a while back my xbox one X started giving me horrible frame lag in games, to the point to where it seemed around 5-20 FPS, no downloads running, nothing, as if some invisible force was eating all of the processing power.

I keep getting installation failures on updates seemingly at random the update will stop, I can resume it, but it keeps persisting.

I have just now had problems joining a party on live because every time I open my friends menu it closes it and returns to home with the home "Ding" noise.

It keeps taking a while for icons for games and apps to decide to appear, once they do they all do so at once.

Just having horrible problems with it navigating menus and playing games.. doing anything at all really.

I just reset my console to its defaults last night hoping to fix the slowdown issue, the Frames per second all seem okay now.. but all the other problems are happening now.

I also tried exorcising my xbox to no avail, there are no foul spirits at work here.

Whats going on?

Okay.. Everything seemed alright after a hard reset for a few minutes, then my party chat disconnects, it tells me nothing is working, then it all comes back for a moment and I open my friends menu then it signs me out and disconnects from live and all my
icons for everything disappear after they just appeared.

We are here to assist, however we will need a little more information. How is the console connected to the power? How is it connected to the internet and is there any external hard drives attached to the console? Let us know so we can get this issue resolved
and the console back and running!!

 

I can try disconnecting the external harddrive..

How is it connected to the power?

The same way my other consoles and television are, through a surge protector.

It is connected wirelessly, but I have never had an issue until recently and all my other wireless devices are working properly.

 

So far it seems like the external harddrive was the cause of all my maladies.

Sorry to hear you are running into these problems. I understand you had not run into these issues in the past, But is it possible to connect with a wired connection to see if this improves? If a wired connection improves your connection, you can always
attempt to
Port Forward your Xbox One console so we can get a stronger wireless connection.

If you need assistance with the port forwarding you can always go through your Internet Service Provider for assistance.

the random shut offs are due the Xbox x being plugged in to a surge protector. All Xbox systems have a surge protector built inside them I would try plugging your Xbox x directly in to the wall outlet. Because I have had the same problem a while back
also you want to make sure that your Xbox one is up to date and has the latest updates for the console it self and that your games and apps are up to date as well

Okay, the issue DID persist, after a game of overwatch I tried playing dead by daylight and it had me do a download of 2gigs.. the download would never start right, kept going extremely slow and kept stopping.

After completely going black screen I hard reset the xbox to an error screen, which did NOT go away and froze when I attempted to use the reset option AND the reset but keep games option.

Using the Completely erase all data allowed me to restart the xbox and it started properly and I am running a download of Dead by daylight at 100mbps instead of 0-600kbps and 24mbps, with no random stopping currently at 5 gigs.

Okay, it went to a little over 10 gigs then started randomly stopping and now its giving me 20mbps.

but if I browse menus the icons are all there and loading fine, the community feed is fine too, usually all of that stops and I am unable to do anything and it eventually freezes.

I had actually decided to push it and opened Dead by daylight WHILE it was downloading.. it had no problems.

I closed Dead by daylight and the download speed shot up to over 200mbps (i have a cap of 100mbps so I assume it was catching up)

So I think its all good from here on out, I will keep this updated if anything else happens.

Okay. So I left my xbox running with a bunch of games qued up without any external harddrives connected, I havent had it plugged in since the first post.

And the problem persists.

After resets.

After clearing all data and resetting to factory defaults.

What is happening?

Do I need to ship this thing off or whats going on here?

I had several downloads finish just fine but I still had a TON in que all around 0.5 to 0.8% completed or 0% and it just stops trying to download.

I cleared the que and tried to download amazon prime video.. a very small app download.

It just instantly fails at this point.

After downloading so much in my que it just starts not working at all for some reason but the store, community, games everything I had on it worked fine.

It was a real nightmare for a while getting it to update the store so I could have ANYTHING on the harddrive that I didnt have on disc and as I said after that it went fine for a while.

I just restarted my console by simply pressing the off button waiting and powering it on I am welcomed with a black screen for several minutes.

Followed by all my icons loading very slowly, all content loading slowly.

The amazon app finishes downloading.

I try to download the netflix app and the download speed is running at 100kbps-600kbps instead of 100mbps+

All my other devices are unaffected by this.

Wired and wireless.

This is not a net issue.

Moments later I was able to download crunchy roll, with an error in the download, I resumed it and it finished quickly.

Loaded it up and I am watching anime just fine with no quality degradation....

so... Is it safe to assume that this is actually the Xbox one X harddrive itself having issues causing these problems?

It can't download or load anything faster than it can read off the harddrive.

Ive found that sometimes, believe it or not, Mixer is running in the background and weighing down the system. Check to make sure that Mixer and Edge arent running, I had that problem before and closing these manually really helped. Also, turning off smooth
transitions between screens helped a lot.
