Xbox One X Shutdown at 4K

Hello.

My Xbox One X is shutting itself down when playing some games using the 4k output, even though the game isn't enhanced for Xbox One X like Warframe.

If I switch to 1440p 120Hz, the game runs and no shutdown happen.

This happened in Warframe and in every single Minecraft save game that I have, whose I lost because they are now corrupted.

As an example of this using 4K output, I can create a new world in Minecraft, then leave the world, without even walking on it, close the game and try to get back in, but the console will shutdown and corrupt the save game, just like that in every single savegame using 4K, but if I change to 1440p 120Hz I can play without shutdowns.

In Warzone at 4k it doesn't happen, which is a way heavier game than Minecraft and Warframe so I think it is not a Hardware issue or heat issue (Warzone runs really hot, not as a PS4 though).

I've done a quick research and found out that this is not a new thing dating back to 2017 reports and still no "fix".

The report with the Xbox report feature has already been done as well.

These are the settings I tested with:

- 2160p SDR 59Hz 10bit Freesync - Shutdown Happens

- 2160p SDR 59Hz 8bit Freesync - Shutdown Happens

- 2160p SDR 60Hz 10bit - Shutdown Happens

- 2160p SDR 60Hz 8bit - Shutdown Happens.

- 1440p SDR 120Hz 10bit - OK

- 1440p SDR 120Hz 8bit - OK

Freesync doesn't turn on with 1440p 120Hz, only in 60Hz (which I didn't test any games).

I did find out that the shutdown happens when the capture mode is selected to 4K, if it is set to 1080p, the console do not shutdown.

No shutdown with HDR games until now.

I'm not in any Xbox preview ring right now, but it did happen in Alpha Skip Ahead last month.

If they do not resolve your issue, you just have to wait for the problem to be looked into since you already reported the matter through your Xbox!

Hi, thanks, about the hardware being too hot, I've already cleaned up my console, change thermal paste and other maintenance, also ran it in a 4ºC and the shutdown happens as well, it is tied to 4K capturing setting, when I set to record at 1080p, the shutdown do not happen.

Although both the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X can both stream 4K, only the One X is capable of true 4K gaming. I would recommend the XBox One X over the XBox One S because it only one that can truly do 4K gaming! The XBox One S can upscale 1080p games
to 4K but isn’t a real 4K console, although it can play Blu-Ray in 4K. The XBox One X is the first console to truly be able to stream 4K gaming, plus it has a Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player!

Xbox Series X will release Holiday 2020, given Xbox's track record of releasing new consoles, they've usually been around November.

It will have Blu-Ray.

With the Xbox One X, it uses checkerboarding to get 4K resolution, though it's not true 4K, it's what allows the One X to get to 4K,

With the Xbox Series X, it will use true native 4K, you may see that the Series X will look a little better at 4K than the One X at 4K.

The Xbox One can't play games at 4K, You need to have the Xbox One X and a 4K TV or a 4K Monitor to get to play games at 4K and games that show Xbox One X Enhanced on them.
