Xbox One X|S Controller No Longer Connecting to Xbox After Unsuccessful Firmware Update

I had just purchased a new Xbox One X|S controller, and was getting ready to start using it. Following the instructions, I put in the batteries and synced it to my Xbox One console, and all was well. Continuing the instructions, the final step was to use the Xbox Accessories app. I saw there was an update available for the firmware of my control, so I clicked to update. Seconds after, my controller disconnected and the Xbox One console was displaying a message that my Xbox One controller was not able to be updated due to loss of connection. I thought this was odd, so I got a USB-C cable to connect to my Xbox One, but my controller was no longer being detected by the Xbox One console Xbox Accessories app, even with a wired connection. Other solutions suggested to use the PC version of the Xbox Accessories app, but I had no luck. Occasionally, the Xbox One controller would be detected by the Xbox One console, but with no option to update and it displays my current firmware version as 0.0.0.0 with no recognition of it being an Xbox One controller. I am able to turn on the Xbox One console with my new controller, but the moment the console turns on and the controller tries to connect, the light on the controller dims and it shuts off. If the controller connects to the console at all, I am maybe able to navigate a few blocks in a menu before the controller disconnects again.

Is there a way to factory reset my controller or revert it to a state where I would be able to apply the firmware update again, or is my controller bricked?

Sorry to hear about what happened. I am afraid that your controller needs to be replaced already.

For us to be able to do something in your controller, it should be detected on any device. Since it was recently purchased, it should still be eligible for in-store warranty. You may check your replacement options through the retailer where you bought it or check it directly with Microsoft website https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/...

To prevent it from happening again, make sure to use a higher quality USB cable and make sure not to interrupt the update and wait only until it's finished.

When the headset is connected _ Kinect Devices it just skips over volume etc

The X Box is no longer recognising it

What is strange is exactly the same thing happened on Xbox s . I bought a new controller that started working and Xbox one stopped. Weird

In this case, it wouldn't be a bad idea to update your controller's firmware. You can do this on your Series X or your Windows 10 PC. To do it on the Series X, connect it using the USB cable and then go to Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller. Then, select the Firmware version square, and then press Next to start the update process.

To do it on Windows 10, just download the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store. If you already have it installed, just run it. After opening the app, the procedure to update is the same one as on the Series X, press the "..." button and follow those steps.

Check if your controller works correctly after doing this.
