Xbox one x revving

started up my Xbox one x and Star Wars battlefront 2 then realized every so often my system keeps reviving up. This reviving lasts for 5 seconds maybe. I counted how many times it revved up and it was around 5 in a row. Is this common or an issue ?

Console wosshing noise

A "wooshing" noise, like gusts of wind? For the Xbox One X, this is normal, because it has a different kind of cooling system compared to the original Xbox One and Xbox One S.

My One X typically runs at a quiet hum, but when I'm playing enhanced games for example, I occasionally hear my console revving up the fan with a "woosh" to expel all of that heat, then it goes back to quiet for a while.

 

Intermittent Loud Fan Noise

Been playing Middle Earth Shadow of War on Xbox One X and getting loud fan noise in the same manner you describe - 3 seconds high revving, 3 seconds of quiet, 3 seconds high revving, 3 seconds of quiet, and keep repeating. I thought it was a wind effect
in the game initially it was so loud. I was playing at 4k resolution, set horizontally on a shelf, no obstruction on any side/top/rear.

Spoke to Microsoft Support just now who said it shouldn't be happening. Did a console reset with them and was still the same. So they said to arrange an exchange with the Microsoft Store (where I bought it) - they still have some Project Scorpio edition
in stock for the exchange, otherwise Microsoft would take it directly to repair/investigate etc.

I must say Support were really helpful in every way!

 

Hey I VICI0US I! The console will be taxed more while running a game or app which can cause the fans to work harder. If the sounds continue at all times or if you believe the console should not be making that sound, I would suggest
getting it serviced. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I returned my console for a new one hopefully I have better luck with this one.

 

I noticed mine started to do this since last update.

 

Mine only does it when i play disc game! its quiet then a few minutes in it revs up the disc drive really fast,it is not the fan it is disc drive! my console has been hot while off in instant on mode to i heard the fan making a little noise when off as well!

 

I had exactly the same issue. as the OP I arranged a replacement via Microsoft and the replacement doesn't do this at all. I am really pleased that I accepted the fact that my console wasn't right and done something about it.
