  1. Xbox one x plays 4k and DVD not blue ray

all of a sudden my one x will play 4k movies and DVD but not blue ray. When I put a blue ray in my tv acts like there is no input and to check connections. When I eject it xbo x goes straight back to home screen. I rebooted the xbox no change. Really becoming
dis enchanted here. Xbox lost its optical output a couple of weeks ago

    :)

    Hi there crazyaswolf69,

We appreciate you reaching out to us with this issue. This particular issue can usually be resolved by reinstalling the App for viewing movies. Also, make sure that your console is plugged directly into a wall outlet and never plugged into a surge protector
or a power strip as this can cause issues and damage your console. Let us know if this is helpful.

  5. May I ask why a surge protector is bad. It has been my general experience that surge protectors were a good thing for electronic devices.

Xbox One has it's own built in surge protector so it is not required to be connected to one, if you do connect it to a surge protector or power strip it may cause some performance issues with the console.

  7. I did what you said and still no luck. Will play 4k and will play standard dvd formats will not play Blue Ray movies. It is plugged directly in to the wall. I find it very odd that 4k works but Blue Ray doesn't. Would that not elude to a software issue and
not a hardware issue? I don't know much about dvd players but there is only one eye to read software interpretation of the code is the difference right?

    Hi again!

It can be a bit more complicated that that. If the Blu-Rays are from a different region, they can cause issues on certain devices. Can you try turning down the default resolution for your console and try one of the discs again after
performing a restart on your console?

  9. I owe you an apoology. I tried what you said and it didn't work. I had a surround sound system in between Xbox and tv. The video thru the surrou d system has failed. I removed the surround sound from the equation and bluerays play. I apologize for wasting
    your time

    2001 Space Odyssey 4KUHD 0x91d70001 error 🙄

It seems to be a common problem with certain 4K UHD Blue Ray disks on the Xbox One and Series X.

My Xbox One X refuses to play certain 4K UHD Blue Ray disks as well and I know it's not the disks that's causing the problem as they play on my stand alone 4K Blue Ray player.

    Blue Ray DVD Player

I would like to watch Blue Ray DVD Discs, because there is no DVD Player in the console of X-Box One S.
You must have the 'All Digital' Xbox One S without the BD-Drive.

As mentioned before, you can connect a Blu-ray or HDMI DVD player to the rear of the unit via the 'HDMI in'. But the HDMI in is limited to 1080P and does not support HDR, so 4K content will not play in 4K via this method.

My xbox one x just plays regular dvds...blue rays...uhd discs...game discs!!

    Series X question

I ended up doing that as I was a bit worried about the optical drive in my Xbox One x when it refused to play certain 4k Blue ray disks.
My old Xbox One X had issues with some UHD movies, so much so that I too bought a stand alone UHD Blue-ray player. Playback issues were (probably still are) common on the One X. I've never played a single Blu-ray, UHD Blu-ray or DVD in my Series X.

There really isn't any need to test all of the discs. Test a few. If the discs are in good clean order they would have played on another BD player.

yes the Xbox one comes with blue-ray built in. and will play blue-rays and regular dvd's.
