    XBox One X Passthrough Question


    My understanding is that my new XBox One X allows me to 'passthrough' the UVerse cable box into the XBox One X and then output the XBox One X into the TV (using a normal HDMI cable into the XBox and a 4K high speed HDMI cable from the XBox to the TV).



    The idea is not only will i then be able to setup the XBox UI to control live TV, but that the XBox One X will upscale my non-4K Cable video to be 4K (to match my 4K TV). My understanding is that this upscaling within the XBox will override the upscaling
    within the 4K TV itself, and that doing it this way will do the best job possible of upscaling regular cable (of say a basketball game on UVerse cable that is NOT broadcast in 4K) to be 4K and thus the best picture on my 4K TV.

    Is this true? Will the XBox One X upscale the 720p or 1080p cable to be as nice as possible equivalent to 4K on my 4K TV?



    Is there a guide showing how to do this the best way? Just got the XBox yesterday and the new 4K TV is being delivered in 2 days. One of the reasons i chose the XBox was due to its 'passthrough ability' as described above, but i am not sure it actually
    works as i have been told it works.

    So are you saying you plugged your cable box into the HDMI passthrough on the One X?

    If the cable box is defaulting to a lower resolution when connected into the Xbox One X's HDMI passthrough, you should be able to adjust the display output in the cable box's settings menu.

    4K Passthrough?

    Will the XBOX One X support a 4k HDMI passthrough for receivers like the Dishnetwork 4K Hooper so that you can watch 4k content on the tv.

    Hi DaRingers,

    I dont think the Xbox One Original supports a 4k passthrough from your cable TV to your actual 4k TV.

    You'd yo use the Xbox One X for that.

    When cable box goes through xbox one x the picture quality is degraded compared to when it is connected to tv straight. Not really resolution, theres more noise in the picture. Tried switching hdmi cables, inputs. Hopefully it can be corrected via software
    update.

    If you have a 4K TV I would connect the Xbox One X HDMI to the TV. Then connect the optical out of the Xbox One X to your sound bar. That way you won't have to worry about degrading your video quality. Most sound bars don't have 4K passthrough.

    I already know the xbox one HDMI port is not a passthrough. I wish it was. my xbox one is in Instand On mode and if its turned off, the TV won't work. It has to be left on. so my question is if its ok for the xbox to be turned on at all times, not in
    sleep mode.
