    Xbox One X - Overheating/Ventilation Issues.

I purchased my Xbox One X at the start of 2018. I had been playing fine in 1080p resolution up until December 2019 in which I treated myself to a 4K monitor. Ever since then i have been having serious issues with the Xbox in terms of overheating and ventilation.
I first noticed the issue with Call of Duty, when selecting multiplayer the system fans would be extremely loud and switch the system off. This was hit and miss for a few months, but as time has gone on this is now an issue with the majority of Xbox One X
enhanced games. I have read online that this is an issue many people are facing. My Xbox One X has been treated similarly to any other console i have owned. There is plenty of ventilation space all around the console with no obstructions. At the time I wasn't
that bothered, I uninstalled Call of Duty and played games with lower graphics. However, since I have been furloughed from work I have wanted to play my Xbox more. Today I contacted Microsoft support to see what they could do to help me. They went through
various troubleshooting methods that I have already previously tried from looking online. The reason I am writing this post is to show you what Microsofts response was to the issue, how I feel the way in which they are dealing with this issue isn't suitable
and to see if anyone else agrees with what they are doing isn't on. It's worth mentioning I feel that a console should be used as intended for a good 5 years before issues like this arise, not 5 months into using the console in 4K as intended.

    Issue

So first of all we were discussing my issue and I was telling the agent what had gone wrong. This was the initial response.

I appreciate all the information. Apparently if the fan's too loud and makes the console off, despite what resolution you switch to, the console will indeed need a repair or inspection
to see what happened. The issue may have occurred until recently because you've had it on the standard resolution for a while.

My point with my phrase earlier is about how your console was set up when you started loading 4k contents. If you could have contacted us just when the issue occurred it might
    have made a difference.

The agent highlighted that the issues may be caused by recently switching to 4K resolution. I was shocked at this, this is what the console is meant to be used for isn't it? Apparently it was my fault I decided to swap to a 4K screen
and not modify settings accordingly. This lead to me stating there was no prompt for me to do this, how would I of intuitively known this needs doing. This was his response.

It may not show up on the console but there are guides and instructions on the Support site.

    Issue

I told the agent that many people online had mentioned this was a fault with Call of Duty, that in turn has ruined the hardware inside of my Xbox. This was their response. It's worth mentioning here the agent tells me the graphics
of a video game designed to be used with the Xbox One X could be the reason my Xbox no longer functions properly. Ridiculous.

I see, well at one point players who had this issue based from my experience started having it with Call of Duty as well, although the game clearly supports 4k. The graphics could
    be the reason though.

I'm not angry about this happening I get things may have flaws and underlying issues with them, however, what I am angry about it Microsofts response on the matter. The only thing they offered me was to purchase a new console at full price from them or sign
up to the All Access pass which essentially puts me into a 24 month contract with them. Paying for a console I have already purchased. The agent was quite rude saying the following.

We take ownership of our mistakes that is why we are providing resolutions and alternative options, it just so happen that it's not what you are expecting.

Are you telling me that due to an error caused directly through the errors with their hardware and their systems the only thing they can do is offer me a new console. I think this is outrageous. There is no ownership for the fact I have now wasted £450 when
all I wanted to do was play the console as intended. I told them all I wanted to do was play my video games, If it means having a discounted Xbox One S that would be fine and resolve the issue but nothing.

To me it seems they are aware of this issue, aware with the fact there are many in the same situation as me yet taking no responsibility and expecting people to pay for a second console which I personally think is outrageous.

Please let me know if any of you are in the same situation. I just feel as if Microsoft should do right to their clearly flawed console.

If you take anything from this, don't buy an Xbox One X, they don't work for many people.

    :)

It’s an Xbox one X. It has plenty of ventilation it’s never overheated before. I blew all the vents out with compressed air, I’ve unplugged it, I’ve switched electrical outlets and nothing.

Start Xbox One without HDMI connected for streaming only (headless)

If you do put your Xbox console into a cupboard, ensure that there is good ventilation to prevent overheating. If the cupboard is enclosed without ventilation then that raises the risk of earlier than normal failure due to overheating issues.

    Good luck!

Xbox one x turns off trying to play 2k games

I am having the same problem with NBA 2K20 and only this game. I can't get passed halftime in a game without the my Xbox One X completely shutting down. When I turn the Xbox One X back on, I get a message that it shutdown to prevent overheating. The console
is in a well ventilated open space.

I have zero issues with any other game or app.
