XBox One X optical out to Logitech Z-5500 doesn't work

Just picked up a new XBox One X today and am trying to get it to work with my Logitech Z-5500 speakers via the optical out. I previously used this same setup with my XBox 360 with no issues

I have the HDMI going out to my ASUS PA248Q monitor, and the optical going out to the Z-5500 receiver module

I've tried turning HDMI audio off and just having the Optical audio on and tried every available setting (Stereo uncompressed, Bitstream out with Dolby Digital and with DTS, both of which are compatible with the receiver), but the receiver isn't getting
any digital signal for sound (displays "No Digital Signal")

I've tried connecting the Logitech Z-5500 to the XBox with the Device Control settings and it successfully communicated with the receiver that way (remote code M1408). The optical cable is functioning correctly (red light visible) and worked fine as mentioned
    previously with the XBox 360

I've restarted the console and the receiver after apply the settings, no luck

I can get audio by connecting headphones to the controller 3.5mm jack, or by turning HDMI audio on and connecting headphones to the monitor's 3.5mm jack, or by passing audio from the 3.5mm jack on the monitor to the line-in on the receiver. The only thing
not functioning appears to be the optical out to the receiver

I would appreciate any advice on how to make the optical out work, or if there is a known compatibility issue since the Logitech Z-5500 is an older model

    Thanks in advance

    :)

  3. Connecting XBOX 360 to a Logitech Z-5500.

The title says it all. I have a PS3 hooked up via optical cable to my Logitech Z-5000 5.1 home cinema system. I was under the impression that I could do the same with my XBOX 360 E (250 gb) which I bought yesterday, but I turns out that the 'new' 'E' console
does not have an optical out/in plug. Is it actually possible to get 5.1 surround sound which this new 360? I actually have no idea how I'm gonna pull this one off. I hope somebody here can help me.

BTW: I have my 360 conncected via HDMI to my HDTV. I only need to connect my Z-5500 with the 360, but don't know how.

XBox One X optical out to Logitech Z-5500 doesn't work

    Hello Thomas!

Thanks for reaching out with this situation. I understand you are having trouble getting your Logitech Z-5500 speakers to play audio from your Xbox One X. Does the optical audio cable itself you are using work with other devices? I would definitely recommend
contacting Logitech in regards to the possible compatibility and they also may be able to give you further assistance in how to set up their product for use with other devices. Is there any way you could possibly test out the consoles Optical Out port by connecting
to any other set of speakers or optical audio receiver? Please let us know with a reply how this goes for you.

    Hi George

Yes, the optical cable works with other devices. I used it with my Xbox 360 before getting the Xbox One today, as I mentioned in my original post

I don't have any other receivers to test the console's Optical Out with, no. I know it's functional though, as it successfully communicated with the receiver during the Device Control setup, as mentioned in my original post. The Xbox successfully toggles
the receiver on and off when powering on and off, as well

I've sent a message to Logitech support and will wait to see what they say

  6. Hello Thomas!

Sorry to hear that you're having problems getting these speakers to work with your new console.

Seeing that the are getting up there age wise, off the top of my head I would say that more than likely it's a compatibility issue, but let's not assume that off the bat.

I know that you said this console is new, but I would suggest doing a soft reset of it to make sure that there's nothing software wise that could be causing this.
It's a reset of your console back to factory settings but one that does not uninstall any of your games or apps and is a really good troubleshooting step for most issues.

Just make sure that before you go ahead with it, that you do know all of the sign-in information for any/all of your accounts(asthey
will be removed) and have easy access to your internet network.

Also make sure that you select the option denoted
reset and keep my games and apps.

    Follow the steps here on
How to reset your console to factory defaults on Xbox One
and let us know how that helps with the issue

Thanks and have a great one!

There is a reddit thread here where someone was having the same issue. Reading through the comments, they
finally did get it working by turning off Auto Detect on the HDMI TV settings. Ready through, and see if the info here helps.

    Thanks for the reply Echo4Ent,

I saw that thread earlier when I was searching for info before posting here. Unfortunately I'm using a monitor, not a TV, and there is no option on it for turning on/off HDMI Auto Detect, nor is there a setting for that (that I could find) in the Xbox options

Hi, I was up until recently using the Z5500 with my Xbox One, HDMI audio should be off as you say and optical audio selected on the Xbox. The Z5500 supports dolby digital and DTS so those should work. Of course ensure that you have the correct input source
    selected on the pod too.

However I do recall having the same problem as you at some point and factory resetting the control pod sorted that out.

To do this, hold down the Input and Settings buttons on the pod while the system is in standby. You should see the pod gets reset and you'll also see what firmware version the pod is using too. That fixed my problem at the time so fingers crossed for you.

There are also some undocumented features that are worth a look at but take care with some of these.

    Easter Eggs

The Z-5500 has many "easter eggs", some aren't mentioned in the user manual.

•Boost mode This will increase the volume of the system beyond the volume knob by turning the volume knob about 180 degrees after the maximum is reached; you will see "Boost 1" all the way to "Boost 11"

•Boost mode 22 This is the same as "Boost mode" only the volume can be increased to "Boost 22" instead of 11. This can be achieved by holding down the "Mute" button on the control pod while turning the volume knob.

•Second Skin This will change some appearance aspects of the control pod. The control pod must be in standby mode to enable; holding all buttons down except "level" will enable this mode.

•Diagnostic Mode This will display advanced signal information upon switching the input, by holding down the "Input" and "Effect" buttons in standby mode.

•Volume offset This will slightly increase the volume of certain frequencies when the analog input is selected. This will normalize the volume of analog signals (direct) to match the louder sounding signal of digital inputs (optical and coaxial). To use this
feature, hold down the "Mute" button and turn the volume knob. This only works when an analog input is selected. The system should be on.

•Reset to factory defaults and display firmware version This will reset the control pod to its factory defaults and also display the firmware version. To do this, hold down the "Input" and "Settings" buttons while the system is in standby. This is useful before
returning or sending in for RMA.

    Thanks for your reply

I knew of the "secret" options on the Z-5500 module, but didn't think to reset to factory default.

I also did a soft reset on the console to be safe, and triple checked that the optical cable worked by connected it to my computer.

Seems to be working now, thanks everyone for your help!
