    Xbox One X won’t run 1440p at 120hz

Hello, I have an Xbox One X. I am trying to enable the 1440p at 120hz setting. However, I keep getting a message that says my monitor does not support it and that is just not true. My television is a Samsung QN65Q70TAF 2020 model. Accoring to the specs it is capable of displaying 4K at 120hz so 1440p should not be an issue. I have the Xbox One X connected to the television directly via a 10’ Premium Certified GE hdmi cable that is optimized for 4K Utlra HD at 18gbps. And it is connected into hdmi port #4 which is a 2.1 hdmi port dedicated for gaming and game mode with freesync is on.
I have had a Samsung technician out to my house to check the television. He could find nothing wrong and even replaced the main board just in case. He did clarify that the television is more then capable at displaying those settings and recommended that I contact Xbox support. It seems to be impossible to get into contact with them in via any way so i am reaching out here. I would also like to add that I am very tech minded. I know my television and Xbox One X very well so please do not reply with a generic response. I have already tried every troubleshooting method possible. Turning game mode off. Switching the Xbox display to both hdmi and auto. Resetting the Xbox and setting up as new. Trying another hdmi cable. Trying every configuration possible in the Xbox settings video mode.

    Why can’t I run 1440p at 120hz on Xbox series x?

you completely missed the target with this one, to much eggnog yeah.

the xbox series x will not allow the OP to select 1440p at 120hz.

OP - the monitor must have proper vesa timings listed in its edid for the xbox to use, if it does not list 1440p 120hz in the edid for hdmi then the xbox will not use it.

    Error on xb1x selecting 4k

The Xbox One X supports 120hz only at 1440p and 1080p resolutions. It does not support 120hz at 4k. So unless your TV or monitor supports 1440p resolution (many don't), you will only get 1080p when selecting 120hz.

    Xbox Series X. 144Htz at 1440p

Many thanks for your response but I'm afraid you are mistaken. HDMI 2.0 has always supported 1440p at 120hz. Even the article you sent says this.

"The HDMI 2.0 connector was previously featured on Xbox One X and Xbox One S, with bandwidth limitations locking content to 4K resolution at 60Hz, or 1440p at 120Hz"

So my question remains How do I get 1440p at 120Hz on the xbox series X with the huawei mateview gt34 monitor that is capable of supporing this?

Unable to 120Hz at 1440p Even Though Monitor Supports 144Hz at 1440p

    You're a little discombobulated there.

I can display 1440p ONLY at 144Hz, and cannot at 120Hz on Xbox. I can only display 1440p at 60Hz on Xbox one X.

Yes I can display 1440p at 60Hz with Freesync - Although 120Hz without Freesync would still technically be better but unfortunately that is not possible with the restrictions on Xbox one X.

I use 1440p @ 60Hz settings with Freesync and HDR with 32 bit color. I get a pretty damn good picture but I'm just a little upset I can't use the 120Hz feature.

    Xbox one s 1440p 120hz problems

I have tried turning freesync off on the monitor side and vrr off on the xbox, still doesn’t allow me to select 1440p@ 120hz.
That’s frustrating, only thing i can now think to suggest is that to ensure your xbox is fully up to date and after turning off freesync on the monitor. Fully restart the console and try again. Maybe only the XBox One X supports 1440p @ 120Hz?
