Xbox One X noise loud at times not playing games.

Hi all, I have a Xbox One X that has loud noise at times when not playing games.

I did some tests and heres what I found,

Dashboard no disc 41db

Dash with disc 47db

The disc stops spinning about 10 min and goes back to 41db so that's about a 6db difference. When my xbox one x is at 41db the machine is very very silent so thats my ref point. I noticed that it seems to be the cd rom drive that has the spin up and down
sound but people thought it might be the
cooling fan. it might still be but the next test suggests it the cdrom drive.

As you can see machine is quieter playing the game than it is in the paused in the menu which makes no sense unless its the cdrom drive spinning up faster creating the louder sound. If you look at playing the game at 47db and take away 6db for the drive
spin its then 41db the same as the dashboard with no disc in the machine, so even though the game is installed on the hdd for some reason the xbox one x constantly accesses the cd room drive which then translates to a louder console from 6db up to 10db or
more which is a lot.

My old xbox does not do this as it checks the disc then stops but the xbox one x is not doing that so I wonder if this is a firmware problem. This would make sense that when people are in the menus the machine sounds louder as the drive might ramp up and
down making the machine sound louder and causing the spin up and down effect.

Also this might be different for different games as it might access the cd disc differently between games. I tried a digital game the only one I have which is not X enhanced but the machine is silent as hell 41db to like my old xbox on day one.

This all points to the cd rom drive access to me, and why some people are saying there systems are silent is because they might be playing digital games and some who are playing on disc might have mixed results as some cd rom drives are louder than others,
It might be a problem with the latest dash wheres the xbox is not checking the disc instead its always spinning it

I know the xbox one x would sound louder the more you play as it will heat up but there does seem to be a good 10db difference with the drive. The only true way to test this out is if I buy gears 4 digitally but don't want to spend to much on.

What you all think ?

it seems to sound louder when soing nothing in games than playing gmaes which is why i might think its a drive thing or maybe its not and there is another problem it just seems strange that a paused screen makes more noise than playing the game.

I have also tried the hold power button for 10 sec to do a rest of the console but still the same.

my build date is the 8th sept and is teh scorpio edtion.

any thoughs ?

Xbox One X Fan sounds way louder than usual

Ok I moved it and it has not shut off sense but the Xbox One X Fan noise is not constant and is still loud maybe not as loud as a jet engine like I describe before but still loud way louder than my Xbox One S and OG Xbox One, it would have a fan burst
when I'm playing which is loud and annoying and the fan noise would never be at a constant noise level while I'm playing a game.

 

Loud Noise while installing Games

My xbox one makes a loud noise while installing games. Its only makes the noise then. Not at any other time. Is this normal?

 

Sounds like bad batch mine has a similar issue. My xbox one s is silent in comparison

 

my scorpio edition is doing the exact same thing. when I have a disc in, the system runs louder. when I take the disc out, the system is quiet. and then when the system is off, there is slight warmth to the touch on the outside of the console. when the disc
is in the drive, the increased loudness isn't all that loud but it is noticeable because when the disc is out the system is dead silent. I don't know if I have a bad cd rom or cooling issue, or if this is just normal

Seriously though, it does sound like a firmware quirk where it isn’t just spinning the drive down.

 

The warmth is normal. Instant in is not totally off, and this board has the SOC and RAM on the top of the console so it is easier to noice that it is warm.

 

i turned off instant on, and the warmth after the console is turned off is gone. but, now a newer concern, played a 4k movie last night and the disc drive was much louder since it was constantly in use. when i took it out, the disc was HOT. now that doesnt
seem normal to me.
