Xbox One X : No Video Output

I'm having an issue with my 3 month old Xbox One X (Christmas gift) whereby it will no longer output any video to the TV.

It happened when my girlfriend was cleaning the plugs (the Xbox was on) and accidentally switched the Xbox off at the mains switch then immediately back on again. After about 5 minutes had passed, I turned the Xbox on and... nothing.

The power-on chime was still there, and it appeared to still be booting fine, but it refused to output any video whatsoever. If I plugged a headset into the controller I could hear the Dashboard sounds, so it was definitely still booting and I was able to
use Windows 10 to stream the Xbox to my PC.

I've tried everything I could...

Safe Mode (Eject and Power)

Troubleshooting Mode (Eject, Sync and Power)

Soft Reset

Hard Reset (Using Windows to Stream from Xbox)

Multiple HDMI cables

All the TVs HDMI ports

Tested the HDMI cable and HDMI port with another console and it was fine.

I can only guess at this point that the HDMI controller chip has failed, and possibly blew when the Xbox was switched off and on in quick succession.

I'm in the UK, and it was purchased from PC World Currys. They only replace a console within 30 days. Therefore they'll probably send it off for repair, and this is my concern. About a month ago, I was cleaning the Xbox with a cloth, that seemingly had a
small piece of plastic stuck to it. I cold hear plastic scratching against plastic, then heard something fall inside the Xbox through the rear vents.

I carefully peeled the warranty sticker off the screw head (but not all the way), unscrewed both screws so I could remove the plastic top. Thankfully the piece of plastic was only wedged between the RF shielding and the plastic case. It turned out to be
a small off-cut from a zip-tie.

I'm concerned that if it did indeed get sent for a repair, they'll look at the sticker an immediately think "tampered" when it isn't the case. I haven't dismantled the RF shielding.

Needless to say, what are my options? Or better yet.. does anyone have any solution that tells me it ISN'T the HDMI controller chip?

I have the same exact problem and it started today as well. There does not seem to be a path throught the chat system without totally misrepresenting the issue. Is there a generic link to the chat support that doesnt ask questions that disqualify you
for chat support??

Tried the suggested fix of powering down and then holding down the power and eject button. I felt the first beeps but no second beeps after 10 seconda. I don't let up on the buttons but after a minute it beeps and powers down

I can select the restart from that menu option when holding the lite center x button on controller as that menu does come up. I do get a green Xbox splash screen after restart but then whole screen goes black but Xbox one is dtill on as is controller. Thus HDMI is working. Not a TV issue as that works for other input.

I have not turned Xbox on for many months. Could it be updating issue? Past updates never did this

More suggestions? I guess I could go watch the red ring of death documentary on YouTube while waiting. That best buy Warrenty was a great investment as my first three Xbox 360s had to be replaced!

ADDENDUM: solution was reset but different buttons: restart xbox and then simultaneously hold down the eject and PAIR buttons until the second tone. That did work. Found that on YouTube.

Sorry your experiencing this issue today and thank you for coming here for the support.

Please could you try this.

1) If there's a disc in the Xbox One console, eject it.

2) On the console, press and hold the Xbox button for five seconds to turn off the console.

3) Press and hold the Xbox button and the Eject button until you hear a beep to turn on the console. You will hear one beep right away and a second beep 10 seconds later. The power light will flash on before the second beep. DO NOT LET GO until the second beep occurs.

Note This will boot your console in low resolution mode (640 × 480). To reset this setting, go to System > Settings in the guide, select Display & sounds, Video options, and then TV Resolution.

Hopefully that helps with your issue

Well, I've taken it back to the Currys store it was purchased from and they're going to send it to Microsoft somewhere in the UK for a repair. They say to allow up to 28 days for a repair. I shall of course update here once it's returned.

I'm still a little concerned over the warranty sticker, mainly because I'm
in the UK not the US, so I'm not 100% sure if Microsofts' new warranty policy is even valid here. If it isn't, I may get it sent back as being tampered with... which would suck.

I don't see why they would apply the policy in one country but not another. The consoles and faults are the same, so the warranty policy should be valid all over the planet.

I had the same problem twice already wirh my one x.

Both times I had to send it in for a repair.

I don't think there is any other solution.
