    Xbox One X - manufacturer fault report


    Hello,

    My Xbox One X died few days ago, 20 months after purchase - no video signal. Standard Microsoft warranty expired, however EU law gives me at least 2 years warranty. So I contacted the retailer - Argos. No problem, started "an out of warranty return" process.
    Unfortunately I need a report it's manufacturer fault, not wear&tear. I did perform all available troubleshooting recommended in my situation, so obviously it's manufacturer fault, bu cannot obtain a report. Spoke to Microsoft support number of times with
    same scanario - "yes, we can help you" and than they hang up. I can get a repair/refund from Argos, but not without a report.

    What would you suggest?

    OK. I'm after very interesting meeting with one of the Argos stores Manager.

    He said that my information is wrong. EU law not obligate for 2 years warranty, but 6 years! Yes. 6
    [Mod Removed - Inappropriate] years!

    However Argos policy requires a report saying it's manufacturer fault or actually it's not caused by a customer. So basically if I drop my Xbox accidentally - it's not covered, but he suggested to contact some console repair centre, once they produce a report
    saying it's a hardware issue, I'll get a refund.

    Not full refund! No! Don't be so positive.

    It's somehow calculated, based on the console usage. In my occassion after 19 months I'm entitled for £308 refund. So basically I pay £50 for report and I will end with £258. The new console will cost about £370 (£110 extra). Not bad, however I'll try a
    big guns. :)
    Is there a reason you are going through anyone and everyone except Microsoft to diagnose, and possibly repair the issue?

    You don't know how much Microsoft would cost to repair/replace. It might be less than your out of pocket doing as you describe above.

    Also, you should read up on this law you are depending on, do your due diligence.

    Since we are not Microsoft employees, I don't think we are in a position to comment on how Microsoft deal with returns internally.

    I can only say, from my own direct experience, that when my Xbox one x failed, after talking with support staff, and going through all their steps( they were very helpful incidently, and sent follow up emails to check on my returns progress), they replaced
    my console with no issues, after having It 1yr and 7months.
    Hi there, I purchase my Xbox One X on October 2017, so it's about the same time. Could you please help me with contact detail? I cannot fine email for xbox support, dealing over the phone is pointless as they hang up with annoying customers.

    However I'm going to try again with my retailer using the following advise: "If you're having problems and the shop won't refund, repair or replace your goods, then you should report it to your local trading standards department, as the retailer is breaching
    your statutory rights. It's worth telling the shop that you're going to do this, as it could mean your complaint is then dealt with. If the retailer fobs you off or blames the manufacturer, you might want to take your complaint to the consumer ombudsman."

    I was referring to the statement about it being an uphill battle...

    We aren't really in a position to make such statements if we are being fair
