Xbox One X keeps switching to 7.1 from bitstream

    Hi,,

Every time I turn my xbox one x back on, the audio output is on 7.1 uncompressed rather than bitstream. I reset it every time so I'm getting Dolby Atmos to my reciever and it works fine for the time I'm using it. Then I have to do it again next time I turn
the console on. The console is set to Intant-on mode if that makes any difference.

    :)

  2. Xbox One X Dolby Atmos Audio Issues

I am having this issue also. With Dolby Atmos on, the sound quality is terrible, it is very lossy and breaks at times. Switched to normal Dolby bitstream or 7.1 uncompressed all sound issues go away.

Yes, I am running through an AVR which is one of the latest models this year that supports all current formats including Dolby Atmos.

Is the problem my specific Xbox One X and should I seek a replacement?

This whole HDMI bitrate vs 7.1 uncompressed is driving me nuts?!?! What is the best/correct setting?!?!

One problem is when watching tv through the x box if the broadcast is in stereo, like for a non hd channel, even though you have 7.1 uncompressed selected, nothing is being output by the surrounds or rear surrounds. There is no pro logic like matrixing
of sources less than 7.1 channels like your receiver would do if it was receiving the raw bitstream data from the xbox, which it isn't. It makes me want to plug my converter box back into my avr instead of the xbox

Hello jcage. Can you tell me what your power on sequence is for your devces? Can you try having the Xbox be the last device to power on and see if that solves anything? Im thinking this may be a handshake. Also what happens if you have
both the audio and video set away from auto but to HDMI?

it's all run through a logitech harmony hub. Power sequence is TV, Receiver, Xbox. However switching to the xbox input for the reciever comes after the Xbox powers on, and the harmony app doesn't allow me to power on the xbox after inputs are changed.
All the power steps have to come first for some reason. I'll try switching inputs manually before powering on the xbox to see if it makes a difference

  6. Hey there jcage22,

    Thanks for reaching out.

By chance, are your devices plugged into a power strip/surge protector that has the Green energy function?

I suggest taking a look at set up. You may have to change the way everything is plugged in if you are using a power strip/surge protector. I had this occur to me and all I did was change the power cords on the surge protector. Seems like powering on the
Xbox then relays power to the receiver which then only works by manually changing the settings. You will want the receiver to turn on first then turn on the Xbox to be to complete the handshake.

Try this and let us know the results.

Xbox One X keeps switching to 7.1 from bitstream

I am experiencing a similar issue. I have the same setup as jcage22: Xbox One X, Onkyo TX-RZ920, Harmony Elite and a Samsung Q9Fn TV. Most of the time the setting for bitstream holds. However, other times it reverts to 7.1 uncompressed. I do have the Xbox
powered from an UPS. I will try changing the power to the wall outlet.
