this has been an annoying issue for ages, one that in frustration made me just ragequit instead of trying to fix. i'd say about since 2019, it was always an issue seemingly connected to the timing of a new console update and then would be a struggle every time a new one came.

The issue: Console is off, i turn it on, it remains a black screen for ages, talking approximately 7 minutes at a time, before it sometimes does the flashy boot up loading screen of a microchip and then pans out for the logo and then go back to a blakc screen again for some time before it reaches a screen "update console" with options to update, skip and go offline or turn off, if i update, it doesn't have much time as less than a minute later it will then turn off. if i skip and go offline, i can't do much as in less than a minute it will also shut off also, if i turn it off, i'm sure it would still have turned itself off in its own time regardless.

How the hell can i fix this?

I've already tried the unplug everything, power off, wait 10 seconds multiple times. there's no disc inside, so what else can i even do.

    :)

Xbox One X keeps having loooong black screen on boot up, then promptly shut offs if it ever reaches the home menu or tries to update

Hope you solved the offline update procedure.

On HD, it does. You will need to connect it to a PC, format it to NTFS and only then the console will recognize the external HD again.

So i wanted to say, I went out and bought a USB flash drive and did an offline update.... my xbox is on the home screen now and it hasn't turned off yet..... for the last 10 minutes, i've been deathly afraid to do anything yet out incase it trolls me hard, but i just wanted to say the USB method worked and so far despite my odd reaction i'm so grateful for your help.

oh my anxiety (it's a Xbox Scorpio too, for what it matter, i heard they had a bunch of problems)

EDIT: think i spoke too soon, it wouldn't read my external hard drive so i restarted and it's still not seeing it.

Let's try to solve it that way here. See if the solution screen opens

Disconnect the network cable if using a wired network connection.

Turn off the console and unplug the power cord to ensure the console is completely turned off.

Wait 30 seconds and plug in the power cord again.

Hold down the BIND(sync) (located on the bottom front of the console) and EJECT (located on the front of the console) buttons and press the Xbox button on the console.

Keep pressing the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10 to 15 seconds

    .

Listen to the two “activation” tones with a few seconds of difference between them. Release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second activation tone.

After opening the solution screen, choose reset and erase everything

    Hello Skcarkden!

My name is Dérek, I'm an independent platform consultant and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help you.

From your report, it looks like the HD is damaged.

You tried to update it offline via the USB FLASH drive and it still didn't turn on normally, correct?

Have you tried factory resetting it?

I understand, did you even perform the procedure I sent above, about formatting the hard drive on the PC?
