    Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
    Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
    Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

    Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with being able to update your console.

    I would suggest that you perform an offline system update, so that we can get your console up-to-date. This can be done by using the

    Xbox One System Update Solution     wizard.

    There will be some perquisites prior to running this:

    • A Windows-based PC with an Internet connection and a USB port.
    • A USB flash drive with a minimum 6 GB of space formatted as NTFS.

    You will then need to download a file that you will be able to acquire via the troubleshooter, and then boot up the console into the Troubleshoot menu, which will all be explained in the wizard.

    Go ahead and give this a try and let us know if this works for you.

    How are you connecting the console to your router/gateway? Wired or WiFi?

    Is this the first attempt at
    Getting started     and setting up the console with your account?

    If so make sure your network router is fully functional prior to turning console on, as the console needs to connect to the internet to complete setup.

    We are having the same problem with xbox one x, wont do the initial setup update, error code keeps changing as well

    Xbox One X will not update on initial startup.

    ANSWER: After fiddling around for a little while, I was able to bring up the screen to factory reset the console, which I did and that seemed to help because I was able to start the update. If anyone else has the same issue, that might be the fix to it.
