    Xbox One X in instant on mode has fan running


    Hello,

    when my xbox one x is shutdown, using instant on mode, the fan stays running. Eventually it may turn off. The xbox is well ventilated, so I don’t think that’s the issue.

    I usually use full shutdown mode, but last night I left it in instant on mode as it was downloading games. At 11:30am the fan was still running. I checked and nothing was downloading.

    Any advise welcome.

    Is Xbox one quiet?

    The console itself is quite, but my power brick definitely has a fan noise running while in "instant-on" mode.

    Xbox fan running in standby/Instant-on mode

    I know the console sounds as if it's on when downloading updates but should the fan be on ALL the time in Instant-On mode? Even when it is not doing anything? It gets quite annoying when there is no other sounds in the house. Especially at night when trying
    to sleep.

    That’s normal operation and shouldn’t be anything to worry about unless it gets really loud and distracting. It is possibke that even though the games were done downloading it was still installing or rearranging files after the download. What you might want
    to try is to go into power settings and have it turn off storage when the system is off. This may keep the system slightly cooler when not neing used.

    It may be the fan in the PSU making the noise. I know mine is always making a rather faint noise of a fan when in this mode.

    Notes

    Your console may sound as if it’s on when downloading and installing updates.

    In Instant-On power mode, the console power supply unit (PSU) remains on and the solid white LED on the PSU is bright. You may also hear the fan in the PSU.

    The console uses 15 watts of power when in Instant-On mode.
