Xbox one x heat

is the Xbox one x back vent supposed to be running so hot ? The sides are fairly cool, but the top is warm, while the back gets quite heated from blowing out hot air. My concern is if it’s suposed to be as hot as it is.

Xbox One X Ozone Smell / Heat

Is it normal for there to be sort of an "ozone" or "hot plastic/electronics" smell associated with the Xbox One X? I have a Scorpio Edition that for the most part seems fine, but when playing graphically intensive games (Wolfenstein II in particular) starts
to emit a fairly faint ozone type smell from the back of the unit ones the fans really start to get going. Playing "normal" games like Destiny 2 doesn't seem to cause this issue -- it's always when the fans really start to kick up.

My wife actually noticed it first from about 10 feet away from the unit, asking if there was something burning in the house. The unit is on top of a table, nothing within a foot of any side of it. Otherwise, the xbox is performing fine, and I haven't had
any lockups or crashes, even when playing for 3-4+ hours, but I'm concerned that something is being pushed to the limit and I'm going to end up with a blown PSU or some other overheated component.

Since it's a Scorpio Edition, I'm somewhat reluctant to take it back and most likely end up with a normal edition, but I also don't want to end up with the thing melting down.

So is this a normal thing during a break in period, or am I headed towards disaster?

Xbox One X Ozone Smell / Heat

Most new electronics do this. For nerds it is like a new car smell. Since the one X has a fan that can really push some air it will blow that smell around. Usually it fades after the parts have finished oxidizing and other adhesives settle down. If it
is running normally, not freezing, or other issues you should be fine. It also has a 1year warranty if something goes wrong.

 

Hi Vicious, mine is exactly the same and once hot (approx 15 mins use) it then crashes after trying to play any game for a few minutes. It kicks me back to the dashboard everytime.

As you described cool on the sides, but very hot on the top middle and towards the back, the air coming from the rear vent is definitely hotter than it should be

Hot air coming out of the back of the unit is completely normal. The rear of the console is an exhaust, and the air (especially when playing games) is meant to be hotter. Digital Foundry have rated the heat to be 60-65 Centigrade.

The console has been designed to be small and discreet, the hot air, and the hot feel to the rear of the machine is normal. That being said, it should be placed where it has enough room to breath.

I have created posts, I have tweeted Xbox support, no one seems to help or discuss things.

Heat from a console is expected, heat to the extent the console crashes and restarts is not.

This seems to be a coming fault across the forum and other sites with the new Project Scorpio Edition.

I have been on chat support for over 2 hours tonight with a gent who tried helping, however Microsoft have failed to do so.

I was advised a new console could be sent to me (great)... however I would need to place £450 in my account to be ‘held’ until mine is sent back, and the new one couldn’t be sent for 7-10 days, which is when I should then return mine.

After paying £450 two days ago, I don’t have another £450 spare to be held.

Option 2 was a repair (ok, this options seems alright at first....) however the repair will be a minimum of 14-21 days.....

wow, how can that be acceptable

@o55ie18 that’s unfortunate to hear, sorry for you endever. I am able to play. Tested it out for 3 hours straight last night no problems. Being new with the product Just got my concerns when I felt the heat from the back, but stated above if it’s normal
then it’s normal. I will run further trials to see if it overheats or not. Thanks for the info btw.

 

Sorry about the problems you having. Couple of questions.

Where or how did you purchase your console? Was it direct from Microsoft? If it was not direct from MS, your quickest option is to return it to the seller. Under UK consumer law, it is the seller that needs to arrange to replace/repair a faulty product.

How do you have console connected to the power? Is it directly into the wall socket or via an extension plug?
