Xbox one x HDR too dark in movie app

I'm not sure if this will help anyone else because I only had the problem with the one UHD movie I have so far, but when I tried to watch a UHD movie on the xbox one x I just purchased with HDR enabled, the movie playback was way too dark. The games I have
and regular HD movies were fine though. I thought it was maybe my HDR settings on my tv or something since I never had anything that could play HDR before, but after hours of messing around with the tv (I thought my settings looked as good as they could) I
finally focused more on the xbox one x settings. I found that when I changed the color depth in the xbox one x display settings to 10bit (which is what my tv has) instead of 8 bit (which seems to be the default for the xbox one x), the movie played back perfectly
then. You should close out the movies app if you have it up, make the change and then restart the app, but after I did that, I could actually see the picture instead of just shadows in a lot of places. It has a nice rich tone to it now like it should, not
so dark I can barely see what's going on. I changed it back and forth a few times and always had the same result, 8 bit couldn't barely see, 10 bit was good. Maybe this is just a fluke, but maybe it will help someone out.

    :)

Movie play too dark on screen

When watching movies on XBox One (in my case, the new XBox One X), the screen seems a bit too dark, compared to Blu Ray and 4k Blu Ray played on ordinary players than on XBox One X. But on XBox One X, this appears a bit too dark...

There must be a possibility to fix this, so that movies display the same balanced light and dark level on the screen on XBox One X, as it does on ordinary players.

Could this be done? Would really appreciate if it could be done, hopefully at the same time fixing the innaccurate RGB colors that appear when playing 4k HDR, which would mean using the new video codecs (forgot what it's called, but the other one than RGB).

Dolby vision in the Netflix app

I have an LG 4k HDR/Dolby vision tv and on the Netflix app on my Xbox one x only HDR is displayed on movies and shows that are in Dolby vision on Netflix. Does the Netflix Xbox app not show Dolby vision or am I missing something?

XBox Club: The screenshot images are to dark to see any detail

    Hey there

Are you playing on xbox one S or X with HDR ? HDR can make screenshots very dark or appear too be dark try turning off the HDR You can still capture in 4k without HDR you can also still capture in HDR and toggle the HDR off and on when you view the game
clip for each clip. Settings Preferences broadcast and capture

Something else too also mention is that the graphics in sea of thevies are very dark. For example the screenshot you took is at night and in a storm. The game makes it hard too see in this case on purpose has it isnt ment too be easy too see when sailing
at night in a storm. So it isnt really a issue just the fact that yes its dark because thats how its been intented too be

Xbox One S - 4k blu ray looks dark

Hey, you may just be noticing a problem that unfortunately is common with HDR movies. Essentially HDR broadens the range of light-to-dark in movies, allowing it to show brighter highlights and constrastingly deeper lowlights. Effectively, dark scenes/elements
become darker. If you check some UHD reviews you'll probably see this happens a lot. Older movies suffer particularly badly - I watched Unforgiven in 4k recently and the final showdown in Greeley's was quite hard to make out at times. But it happens in newer
ones too. I've noticed the 4k of Endgame being quite gloomy in places.
    Thanks for the response.

Would the HDR issue be relevant to me? My TV is not HDR and my HDR option in the Xbox is off. Can the movie being HDR compliant still cause an issue? Also, from what you said about HDR (there is a broader range of light and dark) when I'm watching 4k
on mine the dimness level seems to be consistent throughout.

Xbox One X HDR dimming problem!

    Hello,

My xbox one x has an issue with loading games in HDR. When a game or netflix starts up. My screen dims dark. Like it fade away. All colours are dark and not bright.

I have a 4K/HDR tv with a 10 bit panel. And it doenst work.

I tried everything. Switching settings from my tv and xbox, hard reset, different HDMI 2.0 port and cabel. Only HDR in 8 bit mode doenst go dark. But I know my TV has an working 10 bit panel that works with other content beside my xbox one x.
Same here. It looks as if you have screen dim on as a power saving feature. The problem with this bug is that dims the screen as soon as you start and play an hdr game or app.
