Xbox One X HDR in 1080p

I know the X will support HDR in 4K but will it also support HDR in 1080 as well like the PS4 Pro does? My projector has HDR and 4k but will not allow 4k with HDR @ 60hz which is a requirement on the S.

    Thanks

    :)

    1080P HDR support

I understand that HDR is not related to resolution and that most 1080P displays that do support it are less common that 4K displays, but there are definitely models that do, mine included.

I can play PS4 games on 1080P with HDR but not XB1 games.. I don't understand why MS isn't supporting HDR alongside 1080P ?

  3. 1080P HDR support

    Hi,

Only the Xbox One S and the One X support HDR. HDR isn't linked to resolution, so, technically, HDR can work at 1080P. However, in the interest of not confusing consumers, Microsoft have locked HDR to 4K displays only, which is mostly industry standard
anyway. I'm pretty sure even 1440P doesn't support HDR on One S or One X either.

Xbox One X HDR in 1080p

    ***edit***

I wasnt able to find anything official in regards to that for the Xbox One X. I can only find the article about the HDR requirements for the Xbox One S. Nothing im finding online references if the X supports HDR 1080p or not though.

Well thanks for looking. I can't find an answer either which is why I was asking here.

I care more about HDR than I do about 4k.

You'll be able to set the output of the Xbox One X to 1080p, and if a game supports HDR then the console will use it, I mean the Xbox One S supports HDR, so no reason why the Xbox One X would only allow it at 4K.

Thanks, I hope that is the case. The S will not allow HDR unless output is set to 4K. Not to tout the PS4 Pro but it told me my projector would not support HDR in 4K but offered up "2k HDR" as an option. I would hope the X was as elegant.

  10. PS4 got a patch to support HDR - so in itself HDR is not tied to a resolution.

But X1/X1S being so much weaker console, 1.3TF vs 1.8TF, one wonder if HDR require more from rendering engine for games will allow it - unless X1X.

X1/X1S already run many games as 900p to manage the load and keep framerate.

They removed Snap feature, which probably take away power from the game itself - was that because it jeapardize stability?

X1X will be able to run games prettier in 1080p than X1/X1S - if developers care enough about it.

Some visual enhancements like on PC could also be managed by X1X.

But here is where the big IF comes - not much happend in patching PS4 games to all run Pro enhanced mode.

Will they sell more games because they walk that extra mile and activate more shading stuff on X1X - don't think they bother at all.

If we are lucky devs test it enough on X1X to have it no freeze on us while gaming - so both X1, X1S and X1X will be as stable.

The boost mode on PS4 Pro already caused games to do that, and people said they just turned that off again.

PC have more patches due to so different hardware out there - varying graphics cards, processors etc.

So will so different power on same console generation also introduce problems we did not have before?

Devs only have the same amount of time to test things - which platform do they use?

I have a Sony KDL40EX720 Full HDTV. I like it cause it's thinner than Samsung models and it has an anti-glare display, which means it doesn't reflect like a mirror in bright light, something which Samsung screens do because they're not anti-glare coated.
But I don't think my TV is HDR. My Samsung S8 has HDR and when I watch videos on it, the HDR screen is overkill with beautiful deep blacks and super rich colours.

I mainly care about HDR and better graphics at 1080p, too. Not really into this 4k. But Xbox One graphics need work. All these games which aren't even 1080p native. With Xbox One X, every game can be 1080p native. I'm in no rush
to get a 4k TV. But the HDR is definitely a plus. Many 1080p screens don't even have HDR. Minecraft Super Duper graphics, it's not reserved for 4k screens. Microsoft won't change the operating system software to make it mandatory for the console to be hooked
up to a 4k TV. It's there to enjoy on 1080p screens (and even 720p screens).

Game developers have been making games run at higher native resolution on the competition console. So they will pick up on how Xbox One X is superior to a PS4 Pro. As with the Sony crowd, it's always been about pixels and resolutions and hardware specs with
them. They only changed their emphasis to games, because they have no come back. Xbox One X, Sony you're move. Their PS5 console is still on the drawing board. They say we don't have exclusives. But we have games which aren't on their platform, and that's
something to boast about. Screamride, Kinect Sports Rivals, Zoo Tycoon, Forza, Halo, etc.

If you want a more official answer, contact Xbox Support, the official support channel from Microsoft. I think there's official support staff who are pretty much the only ones who monitor these forums, who could give some advice.

Will xbox one support 1080p HDR like PS4 does?

I'm more interested in knowing if Xbox One S/X will support 1080p and HDR for gaming. I'm fine with ignoring 4k for now.
    Thank you!

Yes, it does. HDR does not depend on 4K output. If your 1080p television supports HDR, then it will work for the games that have HDR color palettes available. It is up to the developer to enable this option in their games.

The only Xbox One family console that does not support HDR for gaming is the original, first-generation Xbox One.
