    Xbox One X Grinding/Whirring Noise while Game is running


    After playing a game for several hours today on a just purchased One X a subtle grinding or whirring noise started coming from the Console. At first it sounded like rain outside. When i quit running the Game, the noise ceased. There was also some amount
    of heat from the right rear of the console. I assume thats where the power supply and or CPU is?

    Is the console working harder because i use a seagate external drive for my games instead of the internal local drive?

    Whirring noise/disc won't read

    My Xbox won't read this disc. It's a perfectly new disc that's clean and no scratches, but when I put it in the Xbox, I get a whirring noise for about a second. Not the loud awful grinding noise I've seen loads but a small whirring noise. What's this about?

    Xbox One noise when installing?

    Depends what noise it is you are talking about.

    The Xbox One will make more noise while installing from a BluRay as it is spinning the disc at high speed to install the game.

    Once installed, the game runs from the HDD and the disc is used for security authentication at boot up. That is why it is quiet when playing games.

    So if the noise was a loud whirring, then that is normal during install. If it was anything else like grinding noise, that isn't normal.

    This sounds like what I'm experiencing on my Scorpio Edition. It sounds like it could be PSU or GPU coil whine to me. Mine is also producing quite a bit of heat in a short amount of time, within 5 - 10 minutes of being running.

    The fan is also running loud and constantly, but sort of pulsating, when a game is running, as soon as I exit the game the noise stops followed a second later by the fan also stopping.

    This doesn't seem to be the case, at least for me, the sound is the same whether I run a game from the internal or external drive, I also tested it with the drive unplugged, no change.

    At idle on the dashboard or when using apps such as YouTube or Twitch it seems to be running basically silently.

    Also as I've seen mentioned in other threads relating to overheating I have tried plugging the console directly into the wall socket rather than my power strip, but this makes no difference.

    Well, a 'grinding' noise certainly doesn't sound good. However, my Xbox 360 S will make a short, loud whirring sound sometimes, which is perfectly normal.

    My Scorpio Xbox One X (which arrived today) has been running pretty quietly, perhaps even quieter than my Xbox One S.

    Is it running hot? Be sure to give it some "breathing room" so it can ventilate enough air to keep cool.

    Do you have a disc inside? Is that making the grinding noise? If so, do other discs cause the same noise?
