Xbox One X Games Crashing To Dashboard

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to provide all the detail that I could.

TLDR:X1X is crashing to the dashboard after lengthy play sessions and driving me and my party insane.

For the past 3-4 weeks I’ve been having an issue with my console crashing. It tends to happen after a longer play session. Typically the game will freeze on a black screen, sometimes with an audio glitch where it makes the “errrrrrrr” sound for 10-20 seconds.
Then it dashboards. No errors given from what I’ve noticed.

Lately all I’ve been playing is Black Ops 4 and it happens in about 80% of zombies matches I play that last more than an hour. But the crash has also happened in two other games recently. Digital downloads if that matters.

For the most part all of my games are on an external HD. To rule out it being a problem with the external I transferred the game and all DLC to internal and the crash is still happening.

Things I’ve tried:

-hard reset by holding the power button(and unplugging power for 5minutes)

-running the game from internal and external drives.

-full reinstall of the game and all DLC

-factory reset of the console

-checking the console for any potential dust that may cause overheating, all clear, console is well ventilated.

Extra info.

Console is a Project Scorpio edition. In the past couple of weeks it is making a lot more fan noise. I never noticed any sound from the fans previously. Now it is really putting out some noise while playing a game.

Console was enrolled in the preview program. I unenrolled this console to rule out it being a bug with the preview OS, but it still hasn’t rolled back to the latest public update yet.

Also, my brother lives with me and is also playing in the party with his launch Xbox One on the same network. He is having no issues. Only mentioning in case it sheds light on a potential network concern.

My current guesses are it is either an OS issue in the preview program, although there are no known issues, or it is a hardware problem.

If it’s a hardware problem I guess I should jump on one of these Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals so I’m hoping to get some clarity here.

I'm sorry to hear that. My One X crashes sometimes too and closes the game out and puts me back on the dashboard but it only seems to happen during certain games. How many different games have you tried this with, that makes it crash?

Did you get a resolution ? I've just received a brand new xbox series x back, date on the back is 4th June 2021. (last xbox series x died)

Every game I load results in xbox restarting or crash to the dashboard

This might be a resolution issue.Try resting the Xbox resolution and matching it with your output device.

If this doesn't work go for Xbox Support.

Halo infinite was hard crashing a lot for me at launch but then seemed to work perfectly through December and now after the most recent update I’m back to crashing almost every game. The game even crashes in the main menu sometimes. Half the time it crashes to Xbox dashboard half the time it shuts the whole Xbox off. I’m on a series x. I’ve done all the troubleshooting tips. This game is broken.

I'd suggest that even if that's true, which seems odd, do provide links towards the TOU where it states.

I have searched in TOU for it on a couple of keywords and could not find it.

How come there are small businesses living on this kind of work then? I mean, in my city there are about 10+ shops where you can get your consoles fixed/parts replaced. They do not have a contract of that sorts.

I'd appreciate (pretty sure the OP as well) if your post is true that you can provide with "proof".

Also, I'd like to point out to several lawsuits against the self repair and bully/intimidate console owners into expensive repair bills if done by Microsoft.

FTC did not go in favor for Microsoft in the case of losing warranty when attempting self repair and was even won by the plaintiff..

It is even against federal law and the MMWA for Microsoft to use the stickers which intimidates customers to pay for expensive repairs rather than self repairing, which is most cases is quick and cheap.

However challenging Microsoft is expensive for a customer and therefor you can just make false statements about the TOU etc, is for me a no-go.
