Xbox One X Games, Apps and updates not working!

Hey forum goers! Since i upgraded recently from a One S to the One X i seem to be having a major bug that keeps happening to my console, i have studied thoroughly through various forums, websites and videos trying to find a fix although most of the help
videos seem to be fixing a bug that only happens once. Upon turning on my console, i go to click a game and it will randomly stay on the title screen until an error message comes up saying "the program took too long to start" my first fix was to turn the console
on then off, which didnt fix it at all, next was using the controller menu to reset the console from the settings tab, upon restarting my games worked once again! Finally! About 2 hours later, when changing games, same freezing title screen occurs on the next
game, setting off the bug where nothing will open, when using the controller to "report a problem" (which i had done the first time) the Xbox insider app even froze. Leaving me to decide to hard reset the console, once restarted again, nothing working still!!
I see a fix about deleting the local game data, so i do this, once the console resets

(yet again) my games work!! Later on that evening i saw an update for fortnite, even though the power up is on "instant on" and automatic updates for the console and games is set to "on", so i decide to click the update, to my surprise, the update freezes
instantly and no app or game will work again, not even error reporting! Have been repeating this same bug with bug fix process everyday since the first initial time.

Xbox One X and External Drive not showing updates for games/apps

I have all of my games and apps on an external drive and when I got the Xbox One X I had plugged in my external drive from my original Xbox One in the Xbox One X. So for the first couple of weeks, I really wasn't thinking of it but then I began noticing
that I would not get any updates for my games or apps. I have the settings set to where they don't download automatically and I had set my Xbox One X as my home console and I also have it as the external drive is where stuff gets downloaded there. In other
words basically the same settings as I had for my original Xbox One. Then after I had noticed I wasn't seeing any updates, I had plugged in my external drive in my original Xbox One and that is when I seen I had 7 updates (5 for apps and 2 for games). I had
asked about it and I never got a response as to why. All I was asked was what did I have it on, ie was the updates set to automatically update and is the X the home console, and after I said the X is the home console and the updates are not set to automatically
update, I never got a response back. Now its a couple weeks since then and I am still not seeing any updates for my games/apps on my Xbox One X.

I shouldn't have to go through every single game and app to see if there is any update especially having 110 games and 65 apps. That would be too time consuming to do that and I shouldn't have to switch between the original Xbox One and Xbox One X to get
any updates for games and apps.

So I was wondering if anyone has had this issue as well.

 

Instant on game updates

on the Xbox one, Xbox one S, and Xbox one X the instant on feature is supposed to allow for the console to perform any updates while the console is off. This feature has not worked in a long while. Games, apps and the console itself does not update while
powered off in this mode.

 

have you tried power cycling your console by holding down it's powerbutton for 10 seconds?

Retry afterwards.

 

That is what i classed as a "hard reset" my apologies. Yes i have to power cycle the console everyday to eventually get it working until the next time i turn it off and on or there is an update.

Is there select models that are doing this, is it fixable via a patch? For the "extra" amount of power the console has, it seems to freeze or lag more often than not. Is my console faulty? This fault happens atleast once a day.

Upon reviewing your concern, it seems that you are currently part of the Xbox Insider program. I too have this error every so often. Firstly, what preview ring are you now a part of?

Also, are you using an external hard drive to store your games and apps? Would like to hear your feedback as I found a partial fix to this glitch/error. In the case that you do have an external hard drive, simply unplugging the hard drive, waiting five to
ten seconds, and then plugging in the hard drive should have the games and apps appear again.

If possible, try to report this to the Xbox Insider feedback form.

I am not currently using a external hard drive at all, every one of my games at this stage is downloaded onto the consoles internal hard drive. This fault is continuing once again today upon trying to update fortnite.

when the freeze occurs not even the xbox insider program opens to report the error, by the time i power cycle the console and can use apps and games again there is no recording of the actual fault occuring.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues. If this is related to the Xbox Insider Preview, and your console is

Okay so now after this fault has still been persisting, now when i start up Forza Horizon 4 it gets to the title screen then freezes (sounds like a disk freezing) even though its a digital copy, my controller stays on, the menu wont show up, viabration
still works and then the console randomly power cycles on its own.

Thank you for keeping us updated in regards to the console disconnecting from the network.
Please try changing the console to
Energy saving mode.
To change this setting:

1. Press the
   Xbox button to open the guide (Don't hold the Xbox Button on the controller)
2. Select
   System >Settings
3. Select
   Power & startup
   >Power mode & startup.
4. Select
   Power mode
   to change the setting to
   Energy-Saving
5. Then restart the console by pressing the
   Xbox Button
   again. Go to
   System
   and select
   Restart Console
   (Not Settings).

You can also report this problem using the Xbox Insider Hub app so we can investigate it further if this is a preview program issue:

1. On your console, install the
   Xbox
   Insider Hub app (if you don’t already have it).
2. Hold down the
   Xbox
   button on the controller.
3. On the power menu, select
   Report a problem.
4. Describe the problem in detail, including when it happened, if you saw
   any specific error codes or messages, and if you were using any specific games, software, hardware, or accessories when you encountered the problem.
