Xbox One X Fan Too Loud When Running The Crew 2

Hi.

My Xbox One X is placed inside an appropriate wood forniture compartment at my TV room.

Local weather is about 20ºC.

At the compartment, console has following free spaces: about 8 to 9 cm at back (where i feel air flow) and right side (when i see its front, the side near power button); 5 cm top; open left side and of course, open front.

It's an almost new unit, I bouth October 2019.

It stay silent when using dash, user interface. When i play some app or small game, i can hear a near silent noise, only if i stop all sound and stay near console. When I play Forza Horizon 4 I hear way louder noise.

But nothing compares to when I play recent purchased The Crew 2 game. It's scary like a jet plane. It's like fan is at full speed ALL THE TIME when game is running (world rendering real time), except when I quit to game title (an animated menu and trailer
video in a loop time), when fun lower to about Forza speed. And if i go Xbox Home (game left running in background), noise still the same. It only starts to lower speed if I force close that game leaving console very warm if I touch it, and fan get quiet only
after about 3 to 5 minutes.

Is this ok? Is this game so demanding? Should I worry about console hardware life?

Hi, i’m having exactly the same issue.

My One X is only 18 months old. Its been running fine until Friday 15th May. I know that with enhanced games it makes it work a bit harder, but that is not the problem here. For example, I’ve been playing AC Odyssey the past month, with no fan noise issues
until friday, so it’s not as if it’s the game over loading it. Now it sounds like its going to take off. I have to double the volume on the tv from its usual setting to compensate.

I have also tried playing Forza Horizon 4 too- same problem. Sounds like a plane in my room. The fan doesnt calm down unless i switch the xbox off. If i am in a game and go to home screen, it’s still loud.

My xbox is on top of a cabinet with 6” from the wall, 10” from a stereo, and open air on the other 2 sides.

I wouldn't worry to much about this as I've discovered my Xbox One X runs quite loud when playing certain games but not when playing others.

You have nothing to worry about as it just seems to be a case of the tech working a little harder.

Hi there,

the cause is likely because the console is inside a cabinet, the most likely cause is the 5 cm top space, but also the 8-9 at the back, which is most likely not enough. It's best to place the console with enough room around it so the warm air can move away.

It's normal that the console may feel hot around the air vents, but in your situation I do think that it's not ventilated enough.

I would suggest placing the console at a more ventilated location to see what happens, if the same thing occurs or not.

Hi, i put an ice bag on top of device, with a cloth to protect from possible drops of melted water.

And after about 10 minutes, i felt that top cold... but not so helpful to fan activity. it was still loud, just a little lower. It seems the plastic case cold temperature was not absorbing internal parts heat.

I'll try to change console place to floor. Considering next generation Series X we have do this anyway, thanks to that subwoofer design, I may try now.

Is there a game running in the background? Does the Xbox One X fan still kick in loud when you've fully shutdown the console and turned it on fresh?

I've noticed that my Xbox One X is usually fairly quiet, but there are some games where the fan kicks in really loud, even if they're running in the background while I watch Netflix.
