When I'd play Wolfenstein 2 or CoD WWII, every once in a while it sounds like the fan speed goes from 40% to 100% for about 3-4 seconds before slowly getting quiet again. I have enough room around the console so it is getting plenty ventilation. Does anyone
know what the problem is, or if it's something I can trade my console in for? Other people are saying they've been playing these games and the console has been 100% whisper quiet and not a problem. I just don't want to be stuck with a possibly defective console
before my warranty is up and the console possibly breaks.

    :)

  2. xbox one x cooling fan speed up with noise!!!

It is normal for the cooling fan to get a bit louder when you’re playing a game. This is especially true when you’re playing “Xbox One X Enhanced” titles, as these particular games make the most use out of the system hardware with the 4K graphics and such.

Xbox One X Fan sounds way louder than usual

Ok I moved it and it has not shut off sense but the Xbox One X Fan noise is not constant and is still loud maybe not as loud as a jet engine like I describe before but still loud way louder than my Xbox One S and OG Xbox One, it would have a fan burst
when I'm playing which is loud and annoying and the fan noise would never be at a constant noise level while I'm playing a game.

Mine does it too. I posted about it in the preview program section and an MS dev said that it was normal. I also spoke to another dev via PM on Reddit and he also said that it was normal.

It seems like the fan profile is designed to keep the One X's fan spinning as slow as possible as often as possible, so rather than it slowly ramping up as the load does, you get these occasional spikes instead.

There will likely be some variance in terms of the silicon lottery and the way the thermal paste has been applied, plus there will be a lot of people whose console's fan does actually ramp up, but because of the distance they sit from the TV, their sensitivity
to hearing fan noise, and how loud they have the game volume turned up, they don't notice it.

MS do track telemetry, which includes the way the fans spin up, so there is a possibility that they'll change the fan profile in a future system update, but given that I've had 2 MS devs tell me that it's normal, I'm not going to risk doing an exchange.
Chances are that a replacement console would do the exact same thing, but I might even end up with one that's worse, or that is actually faulty.

I’ve only noticed it do this once when playing AC: Origins. It sped up for like 2 seconds and sounded like it pushed out a lot of air then was normal again. I’ve heard it’s normal.

The Microsoft guys are right, it is normal. Most of the time the normal speed of the fan will be enough to keep the system cool, but occasionally it will need to spin up faster in order to deal with a heat spike.

Many computer power supplies follow a similar system. Most of the time the fan doesn't even spin but once the temperature reaches a certain point, the fan spins up to keep the temps where they should be.

Got to give Microsoft credit where it is due, they've learnt a lot about cooling a system since the early Xbox 360 days.
