Xbox One X external storage no longer being recognized

My Xbox One X is out of warranty, but it is barely a year old.

My external Western Elements 2TB Portable External Hard Drive is no longer being recognized by the console. Sometimes, the game disk is also not recognized. I have to eject and re-insert the disk, or reboot for the game disk to be recognized.

I tried unplugging and plugging back in to the other USB port, and nothing.

Rebooted according to instructions to hold down power, etc. and still nothing.

The hard drive itself seems to be fine. It is immediately recognized in my other two Xboxes.

Any other suggestions?

I tried this already, but I thought I would try it again just now. No luck. I was hoping not to do this, but I will factory reset next as the others suggested.

No luck with factory reset. The drive is not recognized.

it could honestly be the plug in port to your xbox or the cord itself with that specific xbox. i had an issue like this before and one of they ways i solved it was just by giving the xbox a hard restart!

Thank you for reaching out to Xbox forums support.

If you haven't already done so, go ahead and try performing a Soft console Factory
reset on your console by doing the following:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings.
Select All Settings.
Select System.
Select Console info & updates.
Select Reset console. [KEEP MY GAMES AND APPS]

Make sure you have both your email and password on hand as you will be asked to sign back in. There is an option to delete everything and to save your games and apps; choose the latter.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.
