External hdd space used up when I plugged it into xbox1x?

has anyone came across this with their new Xbox one x? My ext hdd had over 200gb free space on my Xbox one s and when I plugged it into the one x all the space on the ext hdd was completely used up. I deleted some game but I still only have 100gb left. Should
I have formatted my ext before plugging it into the one x?

Xbox one x ext hd problem

Hi there! Sorry you're having problems moving your games. I would first make sure the USB cable is seated well in the console. If you're still having issues moving games, try pausing the installations and doing a hard reset. To do this, with the console
powered on, hold the power button down for about 10 seconds (until it just turns off). After it's off turn it back on and see if the installations continue.

You can also try to do a network transfer if you still have your other console. To do that go to Settings, Network, Select Network Transfer, and enable Allow network transfer, and then leave that console on. After you've done that follow the steps in
to start a network transfer. I recommend being wired via Ethernet for this to decrease time to move.

If all else fails you can also try these steps here, but it's not exactly what your problem is, so I would definitely save that for
    last.

    Question for one x owners

Hello, I would first like to say that according to people who repair Consoles say that both the Xbox One X and the Playstation 4 Pro give more problems than their simplest versions (XBox One S and Playstation 4).
On the Playstation 4 Pro The problem occurs in the high CPU heating, and on Xbox One X where the biggest problem is in the HD, I believe that on the Xbox is the most warm part is the region where the HD is.
I have the Xbox One X since June and until I have the XB1X I had the XB1S and for example a insues I noticed in Xbox One X games for Xbox One S is that Resident Evil 5 and 6 give trouble in online matches (the Games lock and close) and the Xbox One S did
not occur. And this problem of these Resident Evil have seen reports of happening with other players as well. Other than that I believe that there are also not all Xbox one X that will necessarily give trouble on HDs. And with the sizes of the current games,
I believe that 1 TB is insufficient. My I am using and if I get to give HD problem ai I exchange for a HD of at least 2 Tbs

    External hard drive

Mine is plugged into the back USB and I am able to carry it between Xbox one's

If you don't want to lose your games and you can afford it buy a new drive / borrow one and format it on the Xbox One S and then try it on the S.

I have had no problem going out an buying brand name 2.5 USB3 Ext drives, formatting them and using them.

The only way to tell if it is going to work, is to format the Ext. drive on the new X.

4tb external Hard drive not recognized by XBOX ONE X.

No problem. I have switched ports, power cycled, connected the ext hd to my windows laptop (which tells me its fine), reset my console (keeping games and apps), i have changes the power settings, and unplugging the external hard drive power supply.

Its making more of a “rhythmic buzzing” type of sound. Louder than usual i think.

    Xbox one x scorpio edt

    seagate 4tb backup plus, 6mo,

    kept in cool, clean environment,

has been formatted for games and apps for xbox,
