    Xbox One X Console Sync Button Not Working


    Hey all,

    Recently I went to turn on my Xbox via the controller, and I discovered my controller had lost the connection to the Xbox somehow - I went to resync it to my Xbox One X but the sync button is not doing anything when I press it - no flashes, noise or anything. As a result, I can't connect my controllers wirelessly to my Xbox, the only option I have is to use a cable.

    I've tried a power cycle, and also a factory reset (keeping games and apps), but I still can't get this button to work.

    I've only used the button when first syncing my controllers when I get the thing, and it seems unlikely it would have broken without any use, has anyone else experienced this and has any ideas? It's pretty upsetting to not be able to use controllers wirelessly anymore, and of course the warranty just ended start of this year...

    Sync the Controller:
    To sync a wireless controller with your Xbox, follow these steps:

    Press the Xbox button on the controller to turn it on.
    Press and hold the small sync button on the front of the Xbox Series X console (located near the USB port).
    While holding the sync button on the console, press and hold the sync button on the controller (located on the top near the Xbox button).
    Release both sync buttons when the controller's Xbox button starts flashing. The controller should now be synced with the console.

    With the console off, press and hold the sync up button.

    While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console

    Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.

    During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.

    Reset XBOX 360 All Installed Game Updates

    Go to the "system" blade

    Select "memory"

    Press Y on the HD symbol

    Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X

    A message will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"

    Select Yes

    Plz Note: realize some ports do not accept a usb or phone try the back ones to see if those work :)

    You're correct that this is a feature for the Xbox Series X controller. Basically, your secondary device is the PC which you just need to press and hold the sync button for around two seconds.

    Yes, to re-sync it to your Xbox simply double-tap the sync button.

    Make sure to perform a powercycle on your Xbox if double-tapping didn't work.

    Did you try doing a hard reset on the console? That can usually fix these types of issues.
