I had the same problem a year or two ago. Typically it's just that Microsoft broke the dashboard. Are you in any of the beta rings? If you are try leaving it. If not, It should work in a few days. Probably a server problem or something.

When you go to add your wifes account will it allow you to type in the email address for her account or is it freezing on loading before even being able to attempt to select an account?

I would try restarting your router first and completely shutting your console down by holding your finger on the power button until it completely shuts down. Give it a few moments then turn the console back on. Try see if that helps
