Xbox One X - Bluray playback has software or hardware issue

I purchased an Xbox One X (with 1TB) in Dec 2019, UK model. I first tried playing movie bluray discs with it in February 2020, using the standard Bluray player app. That's when discovered an issue with "choppy" sound. The movies have Dolby 5.1 audio tracks.

My xbox uses the standard Bluray player app, which is up-to-date.

The choppy sound seems to occur when there is a scene which is very busy (i.e. a lot going on). Drama movies with very little going on in terms of dialogue and background music work relatively fine. The 20th Century Fox intro to movies is able to trigger
    the choppy sound.

In particularly busy scenes the bug can interrupt video playback and the video appears to skip frames. I am certain the Xbox is at fault, because I have tested the movies on my old 2014 Sony Bluray player, which plays all the movies fine, using the same
HDMI cable and HDMI port on my TV.

(4k UHD discs trigger the issue too but that's to be expected as there would be even more data to process than bluray)

My TV and sound system are not at fault as they play streamed 4K movies and HD movies from Prime and Netflix fine.

I've checked the MS Store for other Bluray player apps but could not find any. So, stuck with the standard bluray player app. Is this app a MS product? Can it be debugged? Or is my Xbox hardware faulty?

    :)

Xbox One X - Bluray playback has software or hardware issue

(FYI: I'm not the average end-consumer. I've worked in software and hardware for over 2 decades)

So, your advice is essentially the cliched "Have you tried turning it off and on again".

I do understand that many console owners leave their devices powered up and/or plugged in all the time. My usage is not so. I always power my device down and turn off the power at the mains.

Before reporting this issue my device has had a "Full shutdown" by selecting the option in the settings menu, several times since February, as the
[Mod removed- inappropriate[ thing sometimes refuses to eject an inserted disc and required full power down and up again to get the eject button to respond (but I digress).

As for your "Factory reset" suggestion, consider this - If I were to "Factory reset" my Xbox, then upon restart/reboot the first thing the device would do is update itself and I'll be back to the system state that it is currently in...I do know how to disable
automatic updates, but I still think the standard bluray player app has software bug(s)

    thanks

    Hi there,

If you haven't yet, please try this:

perform the manual power cycle steps like mentioned on the following link, be sure to wait at least 60 seconds before powering on again:

    http://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console

If that doesn't help then It might also be worth to try to see what a factory reset will do, this can be done with keeping games and apps installed. Keep in mind that you will require to download your profile again (which will require the account credentials)

    Let us know the results

Ok I'll give the feature (Reset and keep my games & apps) a try.

I'm not a frequent Xbox user though. So, I'll update on how it goes in the next couple of days.

    thanks
