    Hi.

    I've Xbox One X connected to Sony HT-ZF9 (HT-Z9F) soundbar, and the soundbar connected to Sony XF9005 (X900F) TV. Enhanced HDMIs are active on all devices. On Xbox One test page I get all green ticks. I can see 4K HDR (and Dolby Vision) without any issue.
    So connections are ok.

    When I play DVD or BLU-RAY I can see that the correct audio stream is received (DD, DTS, and so on) because I set to passthrough when playing discs and my soundbar supports all the commercial formats I could find.

    Now the question is: is there a way to passthrough the audio also when using the native Media Player (or any other media player)? At the moment I've set as output "uncompressed 5.1", and when playing Blu-ray this is instantaneously replaced by DD or DTS
    output, depending on disc, but I can't get the same result when playing an MKV, MP4, or even when watching a streaming content. Xbox decodes it and sends LPCM 5.1 48kHz. When using streaming apps like Netflix I've to manually switch to bitstream Dolby Digital
    to get it properly (also Atmos is working), and therefore I'm not sure this is a real passthrough.

    I've seen various discussions about this, but I couldn't find an official answer or a recent update. So is still impossible to get audio passthrough when playing contents other than physical DVDs/BRs? That is, when playing audio/video files with official
    or 3rd party media player?

    Hi, how do you have the optical cable routed, if you're taking it from the Tv to the A/V unit odds are you will only get stereo audio. The best option is to connect the optical cable from the Xbox to the A/V unit.

    You would also of course need to go into the audio output settings on the Xbox and turn off HDMI audio and switch to optical audio.

    Just had a quick look at the user manual for that A/V. It has 2 optical inputs so you could run one optical cable from the Tv to the A/V port that's marked as Tv Audio and run another optical cable from the Xbox to the optical input that's marked as Media
    Player. You may also need to check the A/V unit is set to output digital audio on that Media Player port. That could be as simple as selecting the audio format on the remote control.
