Xbox One X & Atmos Video dropping out

I have an xbox one x, connected to a Denon AVC-X8500H AVR via top of the line 4K 60Hz capable HDMI cables and a BenQ W11000H Projector the video sometimes drops out for a few
seconds, comes back for a minute then goes again, this pattern continues and increases until the picture goes completely. This occurs when playing games, using the media player to stream content from my NAS, watching Netflix as well as watching Ultra HD Blurays.

    When this occurs I've attempted:

    • Restarting the Projector
    • Restarting the Amp
    • Changing settings on both the Projector and Amp
None of this resolves the issue. The only action that resolves the issue is to restart the Xbox One X. which makes me believe the issue lies in the Xbox itself. I have all updates applied. As you can imagine this system is quite expensive and its very
frustrating to have the Xbox ruin a good game or movie constantly, but needing to restart the system and then spend ages getting everything booted back up again and the movie back to where you were up to.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and is there a solution that doesn't involve restarting the Xbox?

    :)

Xbox One X & Atmos Video dropping out

    Hi Mr. Spot,

Thank you for coming to the forums, I'd be happy to help.

For troubleshooting purposes, do you think you can connect your Xbox to your projector directly with a simple setup taking the AVR out of the picture for a second?

    I would suggest a
    soft factory reset
of the console to restore it back to defaults while keeping your games and apps installed just to try all of the available options. You will just need to set up some settings again and re-add your account.

Once you reset the console I suggest re-connecting your set up again:

Let us know if the picture drops when directly connected to the projector via HDMI.

Xbox One X & Atmos Video dropping out

    Thanks Diego,

I don't think testing the Xbox direct to the projector is going to be very practical. For one, the video drop out doesn't occur every time I use the console. Maybe every 4 or 5th day of use. So doing this would require long term testing, and that means
no sound, as I need my AVR for my 7.1.4 atmos setup. Can't imagine sitting there for hours/days watching a picture with no sound to see if the picture drops. Sounds like a very boring job...

I'll try the soft factory reset next time it occurs (I have the Xbox controlling all my devices as well, so that's going to mean reprogramming all that as well). Hopefully it works, but if not I'd say its an issue with the Xbox and I'm hoping to hear from
    some others to verify.

I'm using a Monster UltraHD Gold 35ft cable from the AVR to Projector. Although this is a $300 AUD cable, I wonder if its not accepting the full bandwidth required for HDR and 4K 60Hz... But then the video has dropped out streaming 1080p content from my
NAS, which certainly wouldn't be pushing the bandwidth of the cable. And I know the difference between my WiFi not keeping up versus this issue. I wanted a HDMI 2.1 cable for future proofing as access is very difficult for feeding the cable, but unfortunately
its still not possible to get one in that length.

    Hi Mr. Spot,

Apologies, I was not aware this does not happen every day and only after a few days of usage.

It's possible the length of the wire may be a factor, since the data has to travel farther but the cable you have is high speed so this is just a suggestion that the length could be a factor. Usually we recommend to just go with the high speed cable included
with the Xbox One X, but I figure your projector and AVR setup requires you to have a longer cable and I understand wanting it to work without any picture drops.

If it happens again, try the soft factory reset and let us know if you notice any improvements after a few days.

Xbox One X Dolby Atmos not working

My Xbox One X is connected to my receiver. When I try to setup Atmos in the audio settings Xbox One X says that my receiver, Denon AVR-4300H, does not have Atmos capability. I am only allowed to choose DTS for the bitstream sound output. Atmos works fine
with my Samsung 4K player so I know it is an Xbox One X issue.

The Dolby App does not give any error until I try to view the demo videos where it flashes, "you are not viewing this video on Dolby Atmos." It plays the demo video on DTS instead.
