Xbox one X and surroundsound (but no 4k passthrough)

Hello all,

Just bought the XboneX and im trying to hook it up on my surround set and tv.

I have the following set-up:

Samsung TV UE40JU6445W

Samsung HT-H7500WM surround set

XboneX

Nintendo Switch

And with my old Xbone I used the following configuration:

The Xbone and the Switch would go in the 2 HDMI IN ports of the surround set, and the HDMI OUT would go to HDMI 3(Arc) from my TV. Worked perfectly.

Now; With the XboneX im running into a problem..

The surround set cannot passthrough 4k, so when i use the config as written a little up, I only have 1080p.

So ive tried installing a S/PDIF cable between the receiver and xbonex and that works, as long as i dont connect the ARC cable between the TV, switch and receiver.

ALSO installing all HDMI cables in their TV slots and running one S/PDIF from the TV to the receiver won't work, the TV has surround sound, but the Xbox will not.

Is there any chance this will work somehow?

4K Passthrough?

Will the XBOX One X support a 4k HDMI passthrough for receivers like the Dishnetwork 4K Hooper so that you can watch 4k content on the tv.

Unfortunately, no. The HDMI passthrough on the Xbox One S does not support 4K.

Have you tried connecting the Optical out (S/PDIF) connection from your television to the surround sound system then disabling ARC on the television to see what happens?

 

Alternately you could try purchasing an optical splitter similar to below then disable the ARC channel and connect both the optical port from your television and console directly to the surround sound system and switch between the two as required.
