Xbox one X and 1080p monitor -both say its outputting 1440p?

    Heya

I have a iiyama G2530HSU (nice little cheap monitor) and have been playing with the settings. It allows freesync so while messing I turned it off. Then in the X1X display menu I disabled auto detect for the output which brought up the usual drop down menu
    -720p/1080p.

However, what is curious is it also gave me the option of 1440p (as well as opening up 4K options although I cannot use those obviously). So I thought huh ok and selected it.

On the monitor under information it usually says 1920-1080 @ 60HZ for HD. With 1440p enabled it switches to 2560-1440@60HZ so both the xbox and monitor are saying its 1440p native.

This should not be possible. It is a supposedly HD monitor so what is going on? Is it just tricking the monitor into thinking its a 1440p monitor? I was under the impression the 1440p option was ONLY available when connected to a 1440P screen? (infact
on my other monitor for work, A Asus, it does not give this option no matter what I change)

2 things: either its just outputting at that and for some reason the monitor thinks its now a 1440p monitor (note it CANNOT do freesync with this resolution on HDMI) or someone put in its older brothers panel in the factory by mistake.

I have tried to test it with Battlefield 1..which looks great supersampled anyway but that makes it tough to really see..it does seem nicer in 1440p but that could be a trick of the eye's. 1080p games seem a little sharper too in this mode yet again though
it could just be my eyes playing tricks as I'm expecting a difference.

Or have I missed something and this is a option regardless of the screen? Which still wouldn't explain why the monitor says its 2560/1440p :/

    :)

    1080 HD

To be honest, I'm not all that surprised it's below 1080p for the console, but it will still be upscaled (better than, say, outputting 720p on a 1080p monitor on a PC with no upscaling) and has custom tailored AA, so I have no doubt it'll look great on both
    consoles.

    Monitor flicker on 1080p

The monitor I have flickers on certain things when outputted at 1080p. The monitor I have is an Asus ve258q. 1920x1080 res. When I output at 720p there is barely any flicker that is noticeable. Its kind of hard to explain but basically I can still see the
image fine but its just flickering quite bit in certain spots. When I set optimal resolution in the xbox settings it goes to 1080p. What should I do?

Xbox one X and 1080p monitor -both say its outputting 1440p?

Interesting experiment, probably the video chipset of the monitor is 1440p capable but the screen has not enough resolution to support it.

A possibility they are more budget ranged monitors so maybe the use the same firmware/chips across the range but then I'd of thought it would also think it's 4K as they do those too.

    Very confusing

Unable to 120Hz at 1440p Even Though Monitor Supports 144Hz at 1440p

Yeah, my bad - its 1440p/120hz OR 1080p/60hz with freesync .

My question is - is it possible to turn on freesync 2 with this Agon monitor in 1440p/60hz on xbox one x?

1440p Output to monitor: Any word as to when?

    Probably not till next year.

Most likely the 1440p resolution will just be the downscaled 2160p output so not really any different from plugging the X into an 1080p display.

Until support is added you will get downscaled 2160p to 1080p that is then upscaled by the monitor to1440p.

My Xbox game clips are lagging

I'm having the same issue on my Xbox series X. I have a 1440p 75hz monitor and my output is 1440p, even with the output and monitor set to 1080p I still have the issue. I have tested this with and without freesynch (On my monitor) turned on, as well as variable frame rate setting on the series X.

The strange thing is when I was playing the Halo Infinite flight recently, nearly all of my clips had NO lag spikes or stutters, there was 1 clip that had an issue (I had made at least 15 captures).

I also say I would rather play my games smooth at 1440p and FPS as high as possible, rather than lowering the settings just to have smooth captures... But it would be nice if this issue could be resolved.

    Any thoughts?
Looks like right now the only way is to set it to 1080p and have smooth captures, or to play 1440p and have stutter. Sucks, but that's the way it is until they fix it.
