Xbox One X 4k recordings randomly stop

My one X has a 1tb external HD formatted to NTFS connected to it for recording game play. The issue i have are as follows:

1. When selecting the external device as the DVR recording location no notification pops up stating i can record for 60 min (this appeared previously)
2. All options only show 30 seconds recording time
3. I did a test, selected 4k UHD (30 seconds) and started to record game play, when going in to stop the gameplay the clock was set to 60 minutes record time but this stops randomly on any given minute.
4. Watching the recording back on a Mac desktop it is not in 4k but 1080p 30fps.

I am assuming this is some sort of bug?, the one x is on the latest release and no updates are available.

Yes you're right. This is a bug. Microsoft implemented a temporary fix where clips that do not record in 4K will record in 1080p instead. The're working on it.

My 4k recording had the same issue until about 2 days ago I changed “Instant on” to “Energy Saving”. I recorded 4k (SDR) 4 times till now and it worked fine so far. I will update if that changes. But as for now it seems to be the solution. The only annoying
thing is I have to change my recording location to extrnal every time the Xbox turns on.

There does appear to be an issue with this in a recent update. I think the issue has been confused and complicated by people also having caching issues which can be easily fixed with a hard reset which has made narrowing it down very difficult. There is
work ongoing for future updates to fix it

That could be true but the xbox one x is supposed to record in 4k for up to an hour. About a month ago it was working fine but now it doesn't. Thanks for the reply.

In my case the issue is due to overheating... I noticed that is stops recording while capturing in 4K with heavily graphics games but if you play a game with very simple graphics it doesn't stop recording.

Also, It you turn on the console cold and starts recording right away it will record 4K for a longer period (5-7 minutes). But if you start recording once the console has been on for 15+ minutes (running a heavy game), it will stop recording 4K less than
60 seconds.
