Xbox One won't start with Kinect or HDMI out cables plugged in.

    1) Yesterday I turned on my Xbox one and there was an update to install, I installed it and the Xbox started fine. All working no problems

    2) I purchased and downloaded Call of Duty and left the Xbox to download the game.

    3) About an hour later I returned to see the status of the download, but instead of a %downloaded message, it just said "installing". I assumed the download had hung, so I restarted the Xbox (just hit the power button).

    4) Now the Xbox wouldn't start. Power would come on, the TV would turn itself on, the power brick showed a white light, but the Xbox would never boot into the home screen UI. After a few seconds, the Xbox light on the power button would grey out a little
bit (like the Xbox was in standby mode etc).

    5) After some troubleshooting, I discovered that if I remove both the Kinect and the HDMI out (that goes to my Comcast cable box) cable, the Xbox would start fine. If I plug in either of these two cables (both or just one), then the Xbox won't start. I can
plug the HDMI cable in once the xbox has started (and then cable TV works).

    6) Support has offered to replace my Kinect, but because of the same problem with the HDMI out cable, I don't think there is anything wrong with my Kinect.

Did I mess something up with I rebooted mid download of a game? Did the last update mess up the system?

    :)

  2. HDMI Stopped Working on Xbox 1

    P8ntguy,

Change the HDMI cable with a 2.0 or better. Make sure the cable is plugged in all the way on the Xbox One. Run STB (cable/sat box) HDMI Xbox One HDMI TV. Repair/exchange likely won't fix the issue, as the cause is not a "failure" with the Xbox One (at least
it does not sound that way). Try the 'good' HDMI cables, and post back what happens!

HDMI - Input toggle for Xbox or TV?

Thanks Hydro Skillet. I did try your suggestion with no luck. I took the PC completely out of the equation (since I now have Xbox Live Gold for NetFlix). If I try one device at a time, they all work. When the second device is plugged in, whatever
device was initially plugged in and working, will still work on both HDMI settings. (Ex. Xbox plugged in to HDMI 2 or 4 (working), plug Cable into HDMI 4 or 2 - Xbox displays on both HDMI 2 and 4). Cable plugged in to HDMI 2 or 4 (working), plug Xbox
into HDMI 4 or 2 - Cable displays on both HDMI 2 and 4?

Idk I also just updated mine. It doesnt really start up when I have my kinect and HDMI in plugged in. With just my kinect it starts up but my kinect does not work. My xbox senses it is hooked up but the kinect shows not life. If I do a hard reboot it temporarily
solved my problem by reseting the connection to my kinect. Im thinking it might be something with the last update.

    Xbox TV/Cable HDMI Question

Just to chime in and reiterate what the other guys were saying:

    1. You cannot change channels on your cable box without Kinect. The Kinect acts as an IR blaster, sending the channel-change, or other commands to your cable box. You can still use your existing cable remote to control your cable box, but the OneGuide on
the Xbox won't know that you changed the channel, since you didn't change it from the Xbox. Meaning, if you pull up the OneGuide, it won't show your current channel. Again, if you're using your cable provider's guide and the cable provider's remote, this won't
be a major issue. When using the Xbox Controller to change channels, it still tells the Xbox to send the signal using the Kinect, so you still wouldn't be able to change channels using your Xbox controller without the Kinect.

    2. You can still access your recorded shows using your cable provider's remote. Essentially, the cable box will work exactly as if it was plugged into your TV, except now it's being passed through the Xbox. You won't lose any functionality. The negative
(if you want to call it that) is that the Xbox has to be on to watch TV. The positive is that you can multitask while watching TV (using other apps, or snapping apps while watching), you also free an HDMI port on your TV/AV receiver and you no longer have
to switch inputs to watch TV or play games as they're both on the same input now.

    3. You don't need a different, or additional HDMI port on your cable box. All that would change on your setup is instead of plugging the HDMI cable into your TV, you'd plug it into the Xbox. The Xbox has an HDMI input and HDMI output. The input is where
it gets the TV signal (from your cable box HDMI) and the output is what plugs into your TV or AV receiver.

To summarize, you won't need any new hardware. You simply need to plug the cable box HDMI into your Xbox, plug your Xbox HDMI into your TV and you're set. Then just go to the TV app on the Xbox when you want to watch TV, followed by using your cable provider's
remote to control the cable box as you have in the past.

    Hopefully that clears everything up!
