    Xbox One won't remember it can connect to wifi unless its shut down and turned back on


    I have a call of duty advance warfare xbox one that recently has been having issues staying connected to wifi unless I do a shut down (holding the power button for like 5 seconds) I'll write what I see then list the actions I've taken to try and fix to problem which obviously hasn't helped.

    When I first turn the xbox on it shows a tile saying "connect to xbox network" right next to the store tile which if I open just tells me I'm not online. clicking the "connect to xbox network" tile just takes me to network settings, and tells me on the right that its not connected to wifi. If I go to manage wireless networks, "set up wireless network" won't show any available wifi not even neighbors or hotspots so I know its not my router and "manage my networks" will show my remembered wifi but when I try to activate it I get a msg saying "We were unable to set this network as your active network profile at this time. Restart your console and try again". Once I do a full shut down by holding the power button for like 5 seconds then turning it back on I get that green start up and it loads in just fine and connects to wifi like it doesn't have a problem however once I'm done and turn it off for a while the next time I try to turn it on the wifi issue starts all over again.

    Now steps I've taken to try to fix the issue so I don't get any repeat advice. Each of these steps has helped fix the issue as soon as I try them most likely because the xbox gets shut down but none have permanently fixed the issue. I have a Nokia BGW320-505 router with AT&T internet and the xbox one and router are in the same room with direct line of site to each other. There is also an xbox 360 right next to the xbox one that has zero issues with wifi so that confirms that its an xbox one issue and not a router issue.

    1. Unplug the power from both the xbox and the router at the same time for a few mins then connect.

    2 Connected to a different wifi when its working

    3 Forgot all wifi networks remembered, shut down xbox then reconnected to wifi

    4 Clear MAC address

    5 Turned on DSCP and WMM tagging

    6 Changed DNS Settings to 8 8 8 8 Don't know what this would do but read it on another wifi problem question on this site.

    7 Xbox is up to date and has automatic updates applied the last update was on May 1st 2025 and last check for new update was today May 26 2025

    8 Reset the console and choosing the reset and keep my games and apps option

    9 Also tried reseting just the router to see if wifi would show up when xbox one is having issues and it didn't show up

    10 IP, DNS, and Alternate port selection are all on automatic aside from when I tried the 8 8 8 8 thing in solution #6

    11 Disconnected the power supply from the xbox and the outlet and the brick from the smaller cable for aboot 30 mins

    This isn't a NAT error. OP I have the same problem as you I will turn on my mic while in the game at times and the game freezes for 3 secs then I get the disconnected from XBL. The only games it hasn't d/c me on is Borderlands 2 and MW3. I use the wireless
    black MS mic. The wireless mic when turned on will shut down the wifi adapter all together and the wifi adapter won't work again unless you shut the system off and back on. This problem has been going on since the last update and it's bs they haven't fixed
    it yet.

    What do you mean your WiFi turns off?

    Is the Xbox console's WiFi turning off and other devices can connect fine, or is WiFi in your router being turned off, so no other devices can access the internet wirelessly?

    What router make and model do you have (please be specific, so don't tell us that you have "a Netgear router", but "a Netgear **** 4711" for example).

    If the router shuts down the WiFi, does it have an event log that shows why the WiFi was turned off?

    This has also been happening to me.

    Definitely interested in other peoples solutions.

    Semi-regularly the Xbox loses wifi network connection and refuses to reconnect.

    When this happens and I turn the console off it won't turn off the tv and the light on the front of the Xbox One doesn't stop flashing.

    It seems to hang and doesn't finish it's shut down procedure.

    The only solution so far has been removing the power. Waiting. And then plugging it in again.

    Both sides and the back are pretty clear, I could try completely clearing some space to see if that works.

    But doesn't the Xbox give an overheating warning? The Xbox just abruptly shuts down and won't turn back on unless I remove the power cord for 10 seconds. And the issue started only 2-3 days ago.

    OK, firstly have you tried to power cycle your console? This is done by (with the xbox on), holding the power button down until the xbox turns off, leaving it for a few minutes, then powering it back on. When you turn it back on, you should see the green
    xbox animation before signing in, this shows you that it has worked. This process simply shuts the xbox down completely, and any background programs or games that might still be running. This process can fix any number of issues, so is worth a shot.

    Second, if the above method doesn't work, are you able to test you xbox using a wired ethernet connection? As this will determine if the problem is with the wifi, or if it is definateyl a connection issue

    Its a very broad issue, so could be any number of things like bad/unstable connection, wifi problem, router problem, xbox problem, etc. So hopefully one of the options above work :)
