    Xbox One won't recognize external hard drive after update


    Hi all.

    I updated my xbox, as it wouldn't allow me to play online until i did, and now my external hard drive is no longer recognized. I've tried all that Microsoft has to offer, such as trying all of the different USB ports and power cycling, but to no avail.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi

    From what you describe it sounds like your console is part of the Xbox Insider program if so you should raise this issue on the

    preview forums    .

    I just posted this the other day. I still haven't heard back if it fix the problem. Maybe it might work for you:

    I have seen quite a few post about the same problem. I have suggested some major steps to other people in hopes that it would clear up the issue. You know, things like the now famous "How
    to restart or power cycle your Xbox One console    " and suggesting they delete and "re-add" their account/profile back to their
    Xbox. Or, following up with "Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One" . But, I'm not sure if that worked for them. However,
    some one was kind enough to post some positive information about removing the Media Player app from his Xbox to fix the problem with "unable to format external
    drive as games/apps drive    " .

    Let us know if this helped. With games now between 40-50GB plus, managing space on an Xbox has become a real pain. My Xbox One is now at 98% and I'm going to have to get an external drive soon.
