  1. Xbox One won't play Xbox (or even 360) games, but Blu-Ray movies work

    Hello All,

I have recently discovered that my Xbox One does not play any game discs anymore. I only know that it hasn't been working like this for at least a month, but could be anywhere to dating back about a year ago. I normally would not have found this problem
existed because I have a (mostly) digital library, aside from one game, Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. This was a gift to me, so I couldn't get the digital version like I normally prefer.

I played the Diablo 3 game over a year ago with friends and had no issues while the game was new. Recently (about a month ago) I got the itch to jump back in with friends and play the game again, but when I put the disc into my console, nothing happens.
I found this odd, so I went through a couple cycles of hard resets of my console, as well as trying to clean the disc slightly (though there is no damage visible on the disc). After none of these things work, my friend suggests trying one of my backwards
compatible games (since I have no other Xbox One disc games), and that also does not work. I then take my disc over to said friends house and it works on his Xbox One like there is no issue.

Long post, short.. My Xbox One that I've had since Day 1 can no longer play video game discs, but can play Blu-Rays. Does anyone here know my options that I can take? Can I exchange my physical disc for a digital copy? Can they exchange my faulty Xbox for
    one that works?

    Thank you for your time!

    :)

Xbox One doesn't play DVDs but will play Blu-rays. Anyone else have this problem?

The strangest thing. My OG Xbox One will play Blu-ray discs just fine. I've watched plenty of Blu-ray movies on it plus I've played many of my Xbox One games on it too (witch are on Blu-ray discs too). Unfortunately when it comes to DVDs, the One won't play
them. Usually I wouldn't give a thought about it because I no longer have any DVDs and have no need to watch a DVD movie but the fact is that I cant access any of my Xbox 360 games either because those are on DVDs. Kind of strange and I'm hoping I can get
a fix because I have allot of 360 games on discs that I can't play because of this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR: Xbox One will play media on Blu-ray discs (Xbox One games/Movies) but won't even read DVDs (Xbox 360 games) witch means I can't play any BC games.

    Blu ray player not working

Same here. Tried playing a movie for my kid and it just won't load. A game disc works but not a blu ray. Even unplugged the xbox one, did not help.

It's a fairly common issue with the early xbox ones.Had it on four different consoles myself.

Your disc drive has had it i'm afraid.Eventually even the blu-rays will start becoming pixelated & not playing properly.

Only options is to book a repair, which you can do at the bottom of this page
    here

I take it your console is out of warranty so there will be a repair fee which is quite expensive.

To be honest you'd be better off paying a little bit more than the repair fee & buying a new console.

As for swapping the disc for a digital copy, that would be down to wherever you got the disc from but I highly doubt anywhere will do that for you.

    360 games on xbox1

    Hi,

Can you check if your console can read DVD discs please? To do this just insert a DVD movie disc. If it works, the console will load the Blu-ray Player app (make sure this this downloaded from the Xbox Store).

Note that the disc you try must be a DVD not an Xbox One or a Blu-ray movie disc.

If your console won't start the DVD movie disc then this indicates a fault with your Xbox One Blu-ray drive. These drives contain two lasers, one for DVD's and one for Blu-ray discs. Xbox One disc games are on Blu-ray, Xbox 360 games are DVD's.

Can't install red dead redemption 1

    Hi,

Do other BC Xbox 360 game discs work on your Xbox One? For the Xbox One to recognise the game and download it from Live it must:

    • Be able to read the disc. Check if the disc is dirty or damaged
    • Have a working Optical drive capable of reading Xbox 360 discs. Try other BC discs or test a DVD movie.

The Xbox One has two diodes for reading discs in the optical Blu-ray Drive. A red laser is used to read Xbox 360 and DVD movies and a blue laser to read Xbox One games and Blu-ray movies. If the diode for reading DVD's is faulty, BC Xbox 360 discs won't
    work.

Xbox One X recognizes no backwards compatible 360-disc / triggers no download

    Hi,

Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.

I need proof that it's ok to play movies on xbox. My mother won't let me watch movies on my xbox 360.

No worries, both the 360 and the Xbox One can play movie discs.

The 360 is unable to play Blu Ray but does handle movie discs with no problems.

The Xbox One can play both regular and Blu Ray discs.

If your mother requires proof that movies can be played on the console you just need to show her the Movie and TV app on the console.
