Xbox one won't load games or if it does they hang/don't go past splash screen

Hello. I have an Xbox One that's been increasingly frustrating to use.

I mainly play Elder Scrolls Online but I've now got an issue where no
games seem to want to load properly.

It started out that ESO would hang or give a random load screen whilst playing. Restarting the Console made no difference - I was unable to get logged on. I have subsequently found that the updates section in my games and apps has a spinning icon as if
there is an update of some sorts stuck or pending, but I can never load anything - nothing ever appears. Whilst this is spinning it seems to prevent and game from being loaded.

I've tried a reboot, cache clearing, and I'm now at the point where I've just done a restore (keeping games and apps) and now when i try to load and game that's located on the external drive it refuses to load (although can see the files listed in my games
and apps). I have tried loading Stardew Valley which is saved locally and that seems to load fine.

What I am getting from any game located on the USB drive is "getting your game ready", then a few moments later "something went wrong" and error code 0x800705b4

I'm at my wits end quite frankly - the internal local drive simply isn't big enough for any more than 1, 2 new games at a push hence the reliance on a USB drive (which is 2TB and was checked a few weeks back for any health issues and all was well there)

I'm very close to launching this thing over the fence! Please help!

*I know ESO has had it's issues - I want to be clear that's it's not just ESO I am seeing this behaviour with.

Hi Lucy,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. I'd be happy to help as best as I can.

From what you have described it seems like the issue is with the games on your external hard drive possibly being corrupted therefore not properly launching from the external drive. Have you tried transferring those games onto your internal drive and launching
them that way just to make sure that it's not the console's drive? You've already restored the console's operating system therefore the issue has to lie with the external drive if Stardew Valley on the internal drive works fine. I would also try a different
USB cable for your external drive and also try plugging the external drive into all of the console's USB ports.

The only other console troubleshooting options you would have is a complete factory reset of your console removing everything or an

Offline System update.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm in the process of moving one of the games that I was having issue with, onto the internal drive and seeing if that works.

What I would say, is that the Console seems very slow to load the games save if I disconnect it, and also reading and writing to it.

I am suspecting that the issue with the phantom updates is what is causing the problem - if I unplug the USB drive, I don't get the spinning updates icon. As soon as I plug it in and wait for the drive to be detected, it kicks in this mysterious update
which then stops any game being loaded/used. The last time I was able to get online, I had to go offline, launch the game, go online when prompted which allowed me to load in. However, a very short while into the game (probably a few minutes or so) I got
a random loading screen appear and kept getting told that it was an unusually long wait. Realising I was getting nowhere I quit and went into My Games and Apps and lo and behold, the spinning updates icon was back.

We'll see what happens once I've finished migrating this game and attempting launch - if it works then there's clearly an issue loading from the USB drive.

I would just like to point out that it's been fine for a long time and I've only noticed this behaviour occurring since the phantom update issue which happened for the first time maybe about 1 month ago and now again since about Wednesday last week.

Also to clarify, the updates is what you can see on the left hand side menu under My Games and Apps, 4th Option down. If I highlight it, the screen has a big spinning circle in it that will sit there and do nothing except spin - no update ever shows up
for the game(s) I have installed, all except for a small Stardew Valley one that showed up a week or so ago i installed but as mentioned this is locally saved anyway.

***EDIT OK So I'm trying to move the files across and it's got as far as 25.7% and says the game is ready to start - HOWEVER - the Updates is spinning away and is causing the remainder of the transfer to stop. I can't load the game, as it gets to the splash
screen and then after a few moments I get an error saying that it's taking too long to start (error code 0x8027025a)

my Xbox wont le me get past the grey loading screen. and when i disconnect the wifi and start the xbox back up, it does the splash logo and freezes on a black screen

@NECROM, when you say Titanfall and BF won't go past the home screen, do you mean the Home screen for the CONSOLE, the initial "splash" screen for the game (basically, quitting back to the home screen right after loading) or the main menu screen for the
game?

For those particular issues, I would recommend a hard power cycle of the console (hold the "Nexus" power light on the console for 8-10 seconds, then wait until the power brick turns orange, then start back up again.) I personally experienced an issue last
night with a game loading the splash screen, then immediately returning to the home screen, and a hard reset fixed it.

if the splash screen is the leading screen then no he cannot get past this, clicks on it to load and it flicks back to home screen
