    Xbox one won't format external drive


    I have a 3 TB hard drive it's USB 3.0. My Xbox one recognize the device has it set up right now for pictures music and video but when I go through the motions and click through to format it for games and apps it doesn't do anything it kicks me right back
    to the main storage window where it says clear saved games clear Xbox 360 storage and manage left over add-ons and to the right it says my main drive and then it has the X ternal next to it and it still set up for pictures video and music. Any information
    to help me out on this would be greatly appreciated

    Is there a way to use an External hard drive for both Xbox One and Pc?

    Formatting an external drive on the Xbox One makes it only useable on Xbox One. It can't be read on PC.

    The Toshiba Canvio appears to meet the requirements for an Xbox One external storage device. You won't damage your Xbox One S. Just plug the external drive into one of the Xbox One S USB ports and the console will detect it, offer to format it, and you'll
    be good to go. Of course, all files on the Canvio external drive will be wiped in the process, but that won't be an issue if the external drive is brand-new.

    IF I understand this correctly ? And I am still learning all this "technical jargon" that it has to be NTFS compatible or at least formatted that way? And the Xbox One supervisor , I spoke with said I could format either by plugging it in to my Xbox One
    S or I could format it on a PC? Could someone 100% confirm this, I don't wish to damage my Xbox One S but I realy don't want to shell out $150.00 for a 4TB Seagate. Thanks:)

    Doesnt matter if you formatted in the PC, when you connect the first time in the console, and you choose as storage for games and apps it will always format the drive.
