Xbox One Won’t Factory Reset

Hello all,

I think I know this means my box is a brick, but before I further assess my options I thought I’d ask if anyone knew what was up.

I have an Xbox One X and its been kinda flakey since I got it. I assumed it was just the nature of the OS. So its been disconnected from the wifi for a couple months while I had wifi installed. I connected it today and there was a system update. It didn’t
take long to download and I went and bought a game from the Xbox store. It was having issues downloading. I decided to delete all local game data to see if that was the issue. As soon as I confirm it, the screen goes dark.

When the system comes back up, I’m on a troubleshooting screen. I hear the box start up tones going on. Error code: E102 00000C01 8007045D. I select to restart. Right back to the same screen. This time I select troubleshoot. I try to turn it off this time.
Turn it on, right back to the same screen. Hard reboot. Same thing. I then decide to bite the bullet and soft factory reset. Nothing. Hard factory reset. Nothing.

I then attempt the offline system update with the USB. Error Code: E101 00000503 80070003. I’ve run out of options. I’m assuming this means the harddrive is toast.

I’d rather not pay hundreds of dollars trying to fix this thing when I’ve had it less than 6 months and I did nothing to cause the issue.

Does anyone know a solutions? Thanks in advance.

If you have already followed the steps indicated here https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/startup-error-solution and you still
have problems I suggest you to contact the shop where you bought the console, since it has only 6 months of life they should respond under guarantee.

If your issue can't be resolved by that troubleshooter, you're in luck that your console is "only" 6 months old, which means it's still within the one year warranty.

You can go to
https://devicesupport.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft Account that you use on that console.

If the console doesn't show up, you need to register it with the serial number. After it's been registered, simply start the warranty repair/replacement and you get your console repaired/replaced for free during the warranty.

Hi, I am attaching the link to the troubleshooter. If you follow the instructions and it still does not work I would recommend that you attempt to use the warranty on your device if it is still available. This should allow you to not have to pay hundreds
of dollars as Microsoft will cover it. I will link the page to the warranty section. I hope this helps,

If all fails you will either need to set up a repair (steps available on same link) or contact Xbox Support like mentioned on that troubleshooting page. When contacting Xbox Support use either the Phone option or the Microsoft Support Chat option on

Regarding warranty, as far as I know standard warranty is 1 year, but can be different per country region. Your warranty should show on the device page where you can set up a repair/replacement request.

If the offline system update doesn't work, please make sure that all external hard drives are disconnected then try turning on your console to see if that sorts out the issue.
