    Xbox one won't detect USB hard drive, but turns it on


    My Xbox one wont detect my Seagate 2TB USB hardrive. I've tried unplugging and plugging in all of the ports, hard restarts, and even unplugged and plugged the console in. I've got all my games saved on it. Please help

    External hard drive malfunction

    Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

    Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

    and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

    Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

    Now I've corrected the previous reply - sorry had to be done - now on to your issue.

    Does your drive get detected at all by the Xbox One? All Storage devices, whether they are USB Flash drives, USB Hard drives or SSD external hard drives should be at least detected, even if they can only be used to play video, but don't meet the requirements
    of Xbox One external game storage.

    this one    ? If so, how did you connected to the console? If it was with a SATA to USB cable, I'm pretty sure that won't work. It needs to be USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosure.

    If you plug this hard drive into a PC does it turn on there? If it's not even turning on when you plug it into a PC, or other device, then it's possible that it might be an issue with the external hard drive itself. In which case, contacting Seagate for
    support might provide better help.

    Since you said you've tried everything, I assume you've already tried using different USB ports on the Xbox One, and you've tried using different USB cables as well. Do you have another hard drive you could use to test and see if that gets detected by the
    Xbox One console?

    Just to be sure... does your hard drive use USB 3.0? If it's a USB 2.x hard drive, the Xbox One won't be able to format it for use with games/apps.

    Did you try your external drive on all the USB ports?

    If you have a PC or laptop and plug it in, does the computer detect it?

    The Xbox One supports all types of external USB 3.0 hard drives, but, could you let us know which drive you purchased please?
