Xbox One won't control my HW150PVR tuner

Studbucket33, the power command does NOT work for me. There doesn't seem to be any ability to control the Homeworx from the XBox One at all except for the black screen flash event.

Interstella69, I'm not so sure that what is happening to you is happening to me. I'm using a Kinect mounted above my TV to control my setup, which includes the TV, Receiver, and Homeworx. The only thing that is not working is the Homeworx. The black screen
flash event didn't start occurring until I tried the new update.

 

I *think* it's a STB thing as well, with some signal we are sending to the HomeWorX box. We're still working on this and we want to get it figured out. MediaSonic has not responded to me, but we have a few other options and I appreciate everyone's help.

For the record, I'm using the exact same IR cable that Interstella69 linked to a few posts up from mine.

I never got the black screen issue until this "New version" update we were told to try a day or so ago.

 

So I took a chance and ordered a new unit from Amazon the other day, while keeping the non-working V3 that I've been posting about just in case. I wanted to see if I would get the same model with the same firmware, thus the same problems, or if by chance
I would get one that worked. I just got it and set it up today and guess what? It works!

Here are the specs on my replacement box:

Model:HW-150 PVR

SW Versionec 27 2014 09:48:15-v.2.0

HW Version:MLG7802-ATSC-QAM-V2

I was able to program it using the original XBox One setup steps with "Mediasonic" as the manufacturer and the "Guide Me" function. It was able to control the box via the Kinect on the second attempt to send a POWER signal. The channel changes are pretty
snappy when set to "delay:fast" and it would be nice if the Kinect sent an "Enter" command after it inputs the channel numbers, but I'm just glad it works. Now, if only OneGuide could set the DVR, then we'd be cooking with butter, but I guess we'll have to
wait for that one.

So, I guess the lesson here is that I got lucky. I could have easily received a V3 model again and been back to square one. The other lesson is that whoever you order these units from, it's probably a crap shoot what HW and SW versions you get. And I hear
from the forums that the firmware versions are not universally compatible.

One thing to note is that this looks to be the QAM version of the firmware; perhaps one of the updates that I've seen talked about on the Mediasonic forums. I'm also concerned that the new unit I received looked like the box had been opened and perhaps plugged
in to test/update. The unit was not listed as refurbished/used and it came straight from Amazon, so I wonder if they turn-around and resell returns w/o checking to see if the product had been used.

On a positive news front, I heard from MediaSonic's customer support department. They verified they did change some firmware on the remotes and boxes, but don't have much other information right now. I'm trying to work more closely with them and gather more
info.

Additionally, I have a 180 in the office that I can't control and Dopefish has mailed me his 150 remote. We'll be capturing the IR from both of those and will add them to the database.

 

I just received my new IR Transmitter cable and got my box working! I used the guide me setup the second code worked. Powering the device on and off works as well as changing channels. The code listed in the menu is N4076. I guess my issue was the IR transmitter.

Only suggestion for TV Team is to add an "Enter" command after the channel is input. This would result in near instant channel change with Fast IR setting.

STILL can't get mine to work. I tried using the "Guide Me" function to see if the Xbox could power on the PVR, no dice. I tried entering the manufacturer as "Mediasonic" AND "Homeworx" - also, no dice. I tried putting in the remote codes suggested recently
and the best I can get is our favorite "black screen for 4-6 seconds" before it reverts back to the same channel.

I'm about to give up and just live with the reality of using THREE remotes. [tag:firstworldproblems]

themahler83 The IR receiver on the Homeworx box is right above the USB port so I don't think your IR cable is sending to the unit. I had this same issue with mine the except mine was not getting signal because the IR cable was broken.

In my case the black screen you mention was happening as a result of the signal being sent to my TV. I tested sending channel change command with no IR transmitter pointed at the Homworx box and still got the black screen. You can test this by blocking the
IR port on your TV to see if you still get the black screen if it is not receiving signal.

Try moving IR transmitter to above USB port on the Homeworx box and doing the guided setup again. If the guided setup fails look for the "HW150PVR(New Version)" in the manual selection list. The "HW150PVR(New Version)" option only appears if you do the guided
setup and then select manually. It wont show up if you skip the guided setup and enter the model name directly.

Another way to solve this is to release a USB TV tuner for us in the States!

 

So I've been living with the new working setup for about week and here are my impressions.

If you have a Kinect, it works, but I will probably be getting an IR transmitter as channel changes are "iffy" at best with just the Kinect using Voice/OneGuide. No matter which delay setting I choose, the channel numbers are entered incorrectly about 40%
of the time, give or take.

Also, I agree with Interstella69. An "Enter" command following the channel input would be helpful.

Regarding channel enter, the boxes don't support channel enter (at least the remotes don't have it), so I don't think we can send it.

Interstella69 with the tip of the day! I moved the IR cables this morning to where the receivers were directly over the USB port, removed the cable box from the settings so I could go through it fresh, and started over using "Homeworx" as the manufacturer.
With the IR receivers in the right spot, the Xbox was able to receive the power function on the second try and upon trying to change the channel with the OneGuide, it worked PERFECTLY!

Interstella69, thank you SO MUCH for your suggestion! IT WORKS!!!!!!! I can't believe it was something as simple as the IR cable placement.

 

Studbucket33, what about the "OK" button? When changing the channel with the remote, the "OK" button confirms the channel change.

 

I'm glad that moving the IR cables seemed to help you guys out, because the IR for these new devices seems to be the same as for the old ones (unlike the HW180, which seems to have been updated).
