Xbox One won't connect to internet with new TV

Hi there,

I'm experiencing a really strange problem since purchasing a new TV, and could really do with some advice.

Yesterday, I set up a new smart TV (Samsung UE55AU7100) which all works fine. It connects to my router (wirelessly) just fine, and works with Netflix etc. But after plugging in my Xbox One, the Xbox won't connect to the internet. This seems completely bizarre to me, as the wifi password etc is obviously stored in the Xbox, and to my mind the fact that it's plugged into a new tv is irrelevant.

As a test, I took the hdmi out of the new tv and plugged it into the old tv. The xbox connected to the internet straight away! So, I took the hdmi out again and plugged it back into the new tv. The internet connection dropped instantly! I tried this at least 4 times, and the same happened on each occasion, which leaves me thinking that the new tv has to be somehow interfering with the Xbox connecting to the internet.

But is that possible? It seems unlikely to me, but there appears to be no other reason for this. Just to get it all out there, the wifi password is obviously correct as it connects to Xbox Live when I plug it into my old tv. Also, the router and internet is working correctly for the same reason.

I've tried searching for this problem but without any luck, so would be really grateful if anybody can throw any light on this.

Hi,

When you said you connected your console to your old TV, did you turn off your new TV?

The fact you have a new TV and connected it to your router should make no difference. To me it looks like IP address conflict. The best way to correct this issue would be to manually reset your router.

You'll need to find your router's reset switch, where this is located depends on your router so you may need to search online.

Disconnect on all your devices from the WIFI.
Reset your router. This is usually done by inserting a paperclip into the reset hole. It's location will depend on your router model.
Wait for the router to complete the reset and reconnect to your ISP, this may take a few minutes.
Turn on your new TV (but don't connect it to the network yet).
Connect your console to your WIFI and Xbox Live
Connect your new Smart TV to your WIFI
Lastly connect everything else to your internet.

Try to connect the Xbox to your phone's hotspot with the HDMI attached to the new TV to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks very much for your answer. Weirdly, I’ve just connected it up to the new tv again and now it’s working?! I have no idea why as it wouldn’t at all yesterday and I haven’t done anything different.

I’ll monitor the situation and if it fails again will try your suggestions.
