Xbox One won't boot up with the hard drive plugged in

    Xbox One won't boot up with the hard drive plugged in


    My Xbox One simply won't turn all the way on with my hard drive plugged in. I have a Seagate 1TB hard drive that has worked great ever since I got it. Haven't played my xbox for a couple days and when I try to turn it on with the hard drive plugged in it
    makes the power up noise, the "X" lights up, and it almost acts like there's a short in my HDMI cable. Pretends to put something on the screen but then "No Signal". Unplug the hard drive and no problem. Starts up like normal and takes me to the dashboard.
    Any suggestions?

    Do you have a hard drive or usb sticks plugged in? If so, try removing them and restart the console. If it boots up, replace one of the storage devices and repeat the procedure.

    If the console boots up without them but does not with one of them in, then that is more than likely the culprit.

    Xbox refuses to recognise HDD

    Remove your hard drive and then boot your xbox up - if it boots up properly then its a problem with your hard drive.

    Xbox One won't boot up with the hard drive plugged in

    Try this. Disconnect the external HDD. Do a hard reset on the console. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord
    back in and restart the console (DO NOT connect the external drive yet). Once it is back up and operational connect the external HDD and test for results. Let us know. Good Luck!

    Unfortunately it doesn't work. As soon as I plug the external HDD in, it goes to the "trying to boot up" but doesn't. It almost sounds the the Xbox is restarting over and over again

    Dashboard not loading well when connecting to xbox live

    Remove hard drive, boot up console and deny any update it offers, let it finish booting up offline.

    Turn off, plug drive back on, reboot as normal.

    .

    That fixes this problem for many people.

    Hey there. I have the same brand, so I think it will work eventually. Try holding the Xbox logo on the console until it shuts down, unplug the power cord and the hard drive and leave it for 5 minutes. After that, plug the power in, but leave the drive unplugged
    and boot it up. Once it's fully booted, try plugging the drive in again

    I haven’t had an external hard drive plugged in to my console for a while, but that has happened to me in the past. Make sure to power down the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds, make sure the hard drive is not plugged in and then restart
    the system. Once everything boots up, then plug the hard drive back in and see if that works.
