    Xbox One with USB

So, my college has enough funding to buy an XBox One and since I suggested the idea I'm responsible for any proceedings or problems involved with it.

Anyways, we've basically handled pricing and all that.

However, at this point I'm mostly worried about storage. We will most likely get the 1TB console but even that, with all the people who might want to save their games, might not be enough. I was thinking that maybe people who really want to save their progress
can bring their own storage, henceforth a flashdrive. Of course, with all the people who would want to do that, and the 3 USB ports that exist, flashdrives would need to be switched out regularly.

On that note, my question is-- Could one bring a flashdrive to save a game, remove it, and then plug it in once again on a later date and recover their data successfully? It would seem obvious but I remember on my XBox 360 it seemed persistent on formatting
with any new device but maybe this was just because the information on the drive was not game data and also the flashdrive was not formerly acquainted with the system. These flashdrives would have an acquaintance, howbeit their relationship would be estranged.

Next, I want to know-- if somebody had a game like GTA V- because I remember on 360 there were two cds, one for installation and one for play- could the installation be saved on the console itself as in the internal storage provided, and then the play part
be saved using the flashdrive method I'm suggesting?

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I tried to use the online chat service here but once I signed in it filled in the email box with my account email and grayed out that as well as the empty first and last name boxes, meaning I couldn't write anything myself. But then, I was not allowed
to chat without filling these out, though I had no ability to. For that reason, I had to use this forum despite the fact that I need this question answered as quickly as possible. In the future, how do I prevent this problem?

    :)

Alright Yes if the console is connected to XBL the User can load up a game on there USB / Flash drive and play on there own accounts.

As for the next question no the disk installation must be moved with the drive as well if not the game cannot function right or may need another install of the said disk.

If you have anymore questions feel free to reply here and if my answers did not satisfy you please let me know as well. Thanks and Happy Gaming Xbox One with USB :)

No the console will not be connected to Xbox Live.

And so you are saying the flashdrive is apt to be removed and re-inserted from time to time?

For example, I've never had XBox Live on my 360 and all my games were saved to my console. When the console ran out of storage, I used flashdrives. If I were to take that flashdrive out from all those years ago and put it in another console along with the
cd of that game could I play as if I never left?

Lastly, basically the answer to my last question is no. Of course, many games do not have separate installation and play discs right? I would just have to look out for the ones that do.

Thanks, and please answer my PS if you can.

When you transferred items on the 360 you where supposed to transfer player saved data as well if not the game cannot read the save automatically it required a save.

As for the Xbox one the drive can be removed multiple times and then re-inserted and your save data should be there with no questions asked.

And the last question is 360 had installation disks because the game was never installed to the console like the Xbox one does currently. and not all disks for the 360 could carry all files and coding required to run the games fully if a user tries to run
a GTA disk on 360 without installing all it's files it would be really unprofessional and not be a completed game.

An for your issue with the Customer support chat is an unknown issue but you can Personally contact Xbox support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

    Thanks that really helpful.

But your first answer-- does that mean each student would need their own account to save to their flashdrive?

If so, isn't there a limited number of accounts you can have on a console? Would you recommend a student sign it to their account on a console - as I've done at a friend's house before- and then delete that account from the console later?

Thanks for the number. Unfortunately this campus does not have cell service.

    Hello Cordenne,

There's a lot there so I will do my best to answer it as detailed as possible.

First off is the question of Storage. Every game, whether digital or disc will need to be installed to the hard drive. So external memory is something you should really look into. Only storage devices of 256GB or larger and are USB 3.0 will work with the
Xbox One. The Xbox One can support up to 16TB of additional storage.

In regards to GTA V, you are saying that someone had the version for 360. That actually doesn't matter here as GTA V is not backwards compatible. They will not be able to play that version on Xbox One. They would need to go out and pick up the Xbox One version
of GTA V, which consists of only one disc.

Finally, just to clarify, when you say it will not be connected to Xbox Live do you mean: 1) Not connected to internet or 2) Never getting a Gold membership? If it is the former, then you would most likely need to set your Console Offline. You can find instructions
    on how to do that
    here
. If you are connected to the internet, but do not have a Gold membership you will not need to set your Console Offline.

Hope this begins to clarify some things!

  9. I see you posted right before I had the chance to submit. To answer your new question, the Xbox One can support 16 different profiles at one time. I appear to be missing the point of having this many people use one console, but since it is against Code of
Conduct to give out profile information so they will either need to turn off auto-sign in or delete their profile every time, which would get tough seeing as the Home Console comes into play.

Well the XBox itself might have a TB of storage. The internal storage isn't the problem. I'm wondering if the game could be saved on external storage.? I don't remember whether or not games usually have to install or they're immediately available with the
disk. If the former, the installation would probably need to be on the external storage too.

On GTAV, that was just an example. I was jut trying to clarify that my school should not look into buying games in that type of format if students were to use their own storage device.

It definitely will not have Gold. It may be connected to the internet. I thought Live depended on specific users. Like me and my sister both have Live accounts but previously we did not. What if a student too did not. Does it matter? Does that mean they
can't save data on their external drive?

Also keep in mind that my college can not afford additional storage of a grand amount. That is why I'm thinking each student can bring their own flashdrive as I know many people have empty flashdrives with amounts of 16GB and more. Basically, I just want
them to be able to play in story mode and come back to their progress using a USB.

  12. In order to save game files, games, etc on flash drives, they will need to be 256GB or larger with a USB 3.0 as mentioned previously.

Oh ok. Is that specific to XBox One because on my 360 I always saved my games to a flashdrive 8GB large?
