Xbox One Wireless controller randomly disconnects

The Xbox One wireless controller appears to be randomly disconnecting from the console while using the rechargeable battery from the Play and Charge kit. I did not have this problem when using AA batteries. However, I only played through one set of AA
batteries before using the Play and Charge kit. I've had the controller disconnect once from the console right after a fresh charge, but it mostly disconnects way before the battery has been depleted. I've had it disconnect on me several times during matches
and I can turn the controller back on and keep on playing for 8 or more hours. The controller is supposed to disable vibration function when the batter becomes weak. However, I've only had the vibration turn off once when I was using AA batteries. I've
never had it turn off vibration when using the rechargeable battery from the Play and Charge kit. Also, the battery indicator that was added in the last Xbox One update doesn't work properly. The indicator is always showing the wrong level of charge and
sometimes doesn't show the battery indicator at all. It sometimes shows empty when it has a fresh charge or half way full when it doesn't have a charge. The indicator is completely messed up. I can't believe Microsoft doesn't make the controller's light
blink or pop up message on the screen to indicate that the controller battery is about to go dead. Is the disconnection being caused by faulty code on the Xbox One or the rechargeable battery pack? Thanks.

    :)

I contacted Microsoft support and described my problem. The support person immediately said the problem was the Xbox One's controller battery cover and is shipping me a new battery cover. She assured me that this will fix the issue. I am very skeptical
that this will fix the issue unless they redesigned the battery cover to hold the battery in place better. I will compare the covers when it arrives to see if there is a difference. While I'm waiting, my controller still disconnects from the console. Has
disconnected on me 3 times a few minutes after a fresh charge. The battery indicator will go from showing full to red in about 1 hour. Then you disconnect controller and re-connect and it shows full again only to repeat the same pattern. If the battery
cover doesn't work I will try to get MS to replace the rechargeable battery. I have not yet had this problem with AA batteries. With AA batteries the indicator also seems to work properly.

Received the new battery cover today. Both parts are identical (Facepalm). What a waste of time.

Had to contact customer support again because it has been two weeks since the battery has arrived at the service center. The service status on the website just shows in progress. They couldn't give me any updates. They are going to have their local office
look into it and send me updates. Hopefully it won't be much longer. By the way, the replacement on the website says it was free of charge which makes me think that MS may be aware that there are issues with their batteries and are offering free replacements.

Still haven't received any direct communication from MS advocacy group on my service request like I was promised many weeks ago. I did receive a package from MS in the mail today. However, they sent me a play and charge cable and not the battery. I've
been on a support call for over an hour now to get this mess sorted out. I've got a good customer service rep who put in the request from scratch. Everything in their system was messed up. Now this issue should be escalated to their advocacy group like
it should have from the start. I should be receiving an email from them soon. Downside is that I may have to wait an additional 17 days for them to resolve the issue. I was given a code for a free month of xbox live which was a nice gesture. The wait continues....

I've received my new play'n'charge kit battery replacement two days ago. I've charged it up and have been using it for a couple of hours now. So far so good. No disconnections and the battery indicator still shows a full charge. I'll report back after
    prolonged use.

  12. It seems that the cavity that holds batteries may be off. When you took out the batteries did any of the prongs bend too far?

No, the prongs were not bent. I've been using my Duracell rechargeable batteries for a while now and can say that it works much better than the Xbox rechargeable kit. However, I still suffer from the occasional random disconnects a couple times a month.
Also the battery low warning still doesn't appear on the screen all the time when battery is low. I believe these problems are due to software problems. I would recommend putting a little bit of padding inside the battery compartment to keep the batteries
nice and tight against the battery prongs. If you shake the controller violently the batteries can move away from the prongs and cause a disconnect.

My battery indicator is always at 3/4 full, no matter if there right out of the charger, or just about dead.

It will give an on screen message that the batteries are about to die, but when I look at the indicator, still 3/4, although they really are about to go dead. I use Energizer rechargables, bought brand new when I bought my XBone 5 weeks ago.

No it's not a bad battery pack. I have 8 brand new batteries bought in sets of 2 from 3 different suppliers. Four of these batteries are of the standard type by which I mean it's just the battery pack. If that doesn't make sense to you as to why I mention
that, it will after the next explanation. The remaining four batteries are one piece with (as in, connected and inseparable from) the slide-plate which goes in over the battery compartment to hold the battery in place. All are designed for the Xbox One X and
as I said, they're all brand new. I have also had this issue now with two different controllers. The second controller having this issue is also brand new as in I bought it last week and the issue began immediately and without regard to which of the 8 batteries
I attempted to use. The only factor that stops the controller from randomly disconnecting with an infuriating regularity is to keep it plugged into the console. As you might suspect, the necessity of this particular action tends to defeat the purpose of a
"wireless controller" which is priced at an additional $20 on top of the retail cost of a standard controller that does not have the "wireless" option. The issue is either in the controller design, construction, materials used, or the coding but it is not
the batteries or there is still a very serious problem floating around which should cause a "blow up." I also have two friends who also have this same issue and who have also taken similar measures to attempt to resolve it.

Problem with the Xbox one controller and its battery.

    Hi Gabriela,

This is a known issue as mentioned here:

What's new: Xbox system updates | Xbox Support

Just to confirm, does the controller still disconnect with the cable as well? Does it disconnect randomly, or only at specific times in particular?

What’s the exact model of the controller, and is this a third party one or a genuine one? If it’s an official Microsoft one, you can find the version number in the battery compartment.

As far as troubleshooting, try the steps under ‘my controller keeps getting disconnected’ in this guide:

Troubleshoot your Xbox Wireless Controller | Xbox Support

    Hope his helps.
